Diabetes Prevention With H2 (Molecular Hydrogen)

Current statistics indicate that 86 million Americans are “prediabetic” and another 30 million have full fledged diabetes. How would you define an epidemic?

Most people don’t seem overly concerned about diabetes until they get it. Even then, the drug and testing companies have made “living with diabetes” less dangerous than it might otherwise be. However, 80,000 people die in the USA each year from complications of diabetes, making it the 7th leading cause of death in the country.

The benefits of improving one’s diet and participating in moderate exercises are well known to help fight diabetes. What is unknown to virtually anyone other than the scientists, are the benefits of drinking H2 enriched water in preventing diabetes.

All of the information in this article is derived from published scientific studies. Credit for compiling the information belongs t o Tywon Hubbard, who produced the video that you will see at the bottom of this article. Tywon’s website www.h2fx.com is an excellent source of videos focused on H2. es.

Feel free to skip to the Role of H2 if you already know the statistics, symptoms, definitions, and types of Diabetes

Statistics: Only 20 million of the 30 million people in America that have diabetes actually know it.

Why avoiding Diabetes is important:

Diabetes adversely affects the heart and blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, nerves, gastrointestinal tract, as well as gums and teeth.

While Diabetes is not typically considered a life threatening disease, more than 80,000 people die of complications from Diabetes in the USA each year making it the 7th leading cause of death.

Symptoms of Diabetes: unusual thirst, frequent urination, weight change (gain or loss), extreme fatigue or lack of energy, blurred vision, frequent or recurring infections, cuts and bruises that are slow to heal, tingling or numbness in the hands or feet, trouble getting or maintaining an erection. If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, check with your doctor.

Many people that have diabetes or are prediabetic don’t know it. If you are over 40, get tested the next time you visit your doctor.

What is Diabetes?: Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion and action. Diabetes occurs when the immune system attacks and destroys cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. The end results of unchecked Diabetes vary from damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart, nerves, and blood vessels which you can read about in detail below.

Types of Diabetes: Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the body doesn’t produce insulin which means a patient needs to take insulin every day. It is typically diagnosed in children but it can appear at any time. It is generally considered to have a genetic origin but environmental issues may also play a role.

Type 2 Diabetes (aka adult onset Diabetes) occurs at any age, but typically appears during middle age due primarily to an unhealthy lifestyle (overweight, obesity, inactivity, age, triglyceride levels, etc), but genetics (family history of Diabetes) can also play a role. Type 2 Diabetes occurs when the body doesn’t make or use insulin efficiently as the body exhibits insulin resistance.

The role of H2 in Preventing Diabetes

The following 7 target areas have been identified as situations where consuming H2 enriched water can help prevent diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes Type 1 Diabetes doesn’t present until more than 80% of Beta cells in the pancreas (which produce and secrete insulin) have been destroyed. Beta cell loss leads to insulin deficiency and hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia promotes Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in tissues which contribute to Beta cell dysfunction and disease progression.

Studies show that H2 water protects Beta cells by preventing ROS generation and may be useful in preventing Type 1 diabetes. Studies also indicate that H2 exerts metabolic effects similar to insulin and may be a novel therapeutic alternative to insulin which could aid in Type 1 diabetes management.. The Type 1 diabetes discussion begins at 2:41 in the video below.

Type 2 Diabetes

A diet rich in sugar and total and saturated fat contributes to the development of Type 2 diabetes. A proper diet has been shown to be successful in achieving hemoglobin targets in 50% of cases.

A study showed how consumption of H2 water improves blood sugar levels and impaired sugar tolerance. Another study showed how drinking 2 liters of H2 enriched water per day improved the condition of Type 2 diabetes patients. The improvements are due to the ability of H2 water to attenuate oxidative stress which clearly shows effectiveness in inhibiting diabetes. The Type 2 Diabetes discussion begins at 4:18 in the video below.

Pre-Diabetes

Participating in regular physical activities and controlling your weight reduces the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes by 50% which means everyone should be taking these two basic measures. The simple act of switching from sugar based drinks to water is vital to improving one’s health.

Studies show that drinking hydrogen enriched (H2) water is promising in the prevention of insulin resistance and diabetes. The pre-diabetes discussion begins at 5:27 in the video below.

Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic Syndrome is a group of conditions (high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat in the waistline area, abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels) that increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. A person that has metabolic syndrome is 5x more likely to develop diabetes.

A diet rich in sugars and fat plays a significant role in the formation of metabolic syndrome. And once again, oxidative stress also plays a role. Studies show that H2 water improves the level of oxidative stress associated with metabolic syndrome. The discussion of Metabolic Syndrome begins at 6:17 in the video below.

Obesity

Obesity greatly increases the rate of Type 2 diabetes. 80% of people that have diabetes are overweight/obese and complications from the condition eats of 21% of the American health care budget.

In the year 2000, 15% of deaths in the USA were attributed to obesity and overweight/obesity by middle age shortens your life expectancy by 4 to 7 years. Projections suggest that 85% of Americans will be overweight or obese by 2030. As such, obesity is a real and dangerous threat to society.

Improvement of one’s diet and participation in moderate exercise obviously play a significant role in controlling obesity but what you probably don’t know is that studies show that the long term consumption of H2 enriched water significantly controlled fat and body weight versus drinking other water. .

Studies show that drinking H2 enriched water decreased levels of glucose, insulin, and triglycerides. Studies also show that long term drinking of H2 enriched water enhance energy expenditure improving obesity and diabetes. One study concludes that H2 consumption might be a beneficial agent in the management of body composition and insulin resistance in obesity. The discussion about obesity begins at 8:15 in the video below

Hyperglycemia

Hyperglycemia is a term describing the condition of having excess glucose or sugar in your blood.

The onset and progression of diabetic complications correlates strongly with glycemic control. A study shows that the intake of H2 enriched water normalizes glucose tolerance tests suggesting that the H2 water may play a beneficial role in the prevention of insulin resistance. Another study showed that after 12 weeks of H2 water consumption, glucose levels were significantly decreased. Another study shows that H2 water enhances the glucose sensitivity and glucose response of beta cells. One study concluded that the effects of drinking H2 enriched water on hypoglycemia were similar to the effects of dietary restrictions. Another study indicated that the therapeutic effects of H2 enriched water were superior to a prescription of an anti-diabetic drug (pioglitazone). Another study showed that consumption of H2 enriched water increased the level of serum adiponectin levels which is implicated in improving insulin resistance. A study concludes that H2 water may improve insulin resistance and alleviate the symptoms of diabetes by reducing oxidative stress and enhancing the anti-oxidant system. The discussion about hyperglycemia begins at 11:01 in the video below.

Complications from diabetes

The chronic hyperglycemia of diabetes is associated with long term damage, dysfunction, and failure with eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart, and blood vessels.

Oxidative stress plays a pivotal role in the development of diabetes complications. Studies show that H2 water consumption can improve diabetes and diabetes-associated complications. One study concludes that H2 consumption has therapeutic potential for the treatment of renal dysfunction in patients with Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) occurs when the peripheral nerves are damaged resulting in weakness, numbness, and pain often found in the hands and feet. It is considered to be one of the most prevalent and life threatening microvascular diabetic complications. DNP affects up to 50% of diabetes patients and there is currently no therapeutic efficacious strategies to treat it. However, a study suggests that H2 water may have potential for treatment of DPN

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of blindness in the working population and a significant cause of blindness in the elderly. One study concludes that H2 water is a potentially valuable therapeutic modality for the treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy.

Diabetic Cardiomyopathy is a disorder of the heart muscle in diabetes patients is a major cause of heart failure. Diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance increase the risk of cardiovascular disease by 3 to 8 times. 30% of patients hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction have diabetes and 35% have impaired glucose tolerance. One study summarized that H2 water attenuated cardiac dysfunction and that H2 could be envisioned as a nutritional counter measure of diabetic cardiomyopathy.

Skin diseases and lesions are another complication of diabetes. Reactive Oxidative Species (ROS) are an important factor in the development of skin lesions in diabetes. The results of one study suggest that H2 water may have applications in the treatment of skin diseases caused by diabetes.

Other studies indicate that H2 water may be beneficial in preserving bone density and reducing fractures in diabetic patients. In addition H2 water was found to improve erectile dysfunction in a diabetic induced study of rats. The discussion about complications that result from diabetes begins at 13:37 in the video below.

SUMMARY

H2 water may prevent or delay the development and progression of Type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome by protecting against oxidative stress.

In addition, supplementation with H2 water has been demonstrated to have a beneficial role in the prevention of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.

If you are over 40, or are overweight/obese, or you are experiencing the symptoms listed above, please consult with your doctor. And for God sakes, eat better and exercise moderately. If you love someone that meets the above criteria, please share this article with them.

You may also want to look into products that produce molecular hydrogen (H2) as the scientific evidence clearly demonstrates that H2 is beneficial in preventing the onset and progression of diabetes.
