The subject never occurred to me and nobody ever talks about it…ever!

Statistics indicate that 20 million American men suffer from ED. Really? How can that be when nobody talks about it? Don’t you find it odd that our society (through the media and internet) is so preoccupied with sex and yet nobody talks about ED?

So what prompted me to bring up such a taboo subject? Certainly not any discussion that I have had because I have never had a friend or associate even mention the subject. I came across the subject when I was researching Diabetes. My interest in Type 2 Diabetes (which accounts for about 95% of all cases of Diabetes) comes from my many discussions with people who have been able to dramatically reduce or eliminate their Type 2 Diabetes prescriptions when they started drinking ionized water and eating properly.

What has Diabetes got to do with Erectile Dysfunction?

It turns out to be a lot. Research indicates that 50% of all men who have Diabetes end up experiencing Erectile Dysfunction within ten years. Really? Yup!

Isn’t the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes escalating rapidly? Yup! Hmmm!

Facts about Diabetes

* 20 – 26 million Americans have diabetes (depending upon which studies you read)
* 40 – 79 million more Americans have pre-diabetes (depending upon which studies you read)…ie… people who have elevated blood sugar levels which means they are working their way towards getting Type 2 Diabetes….yikes!
* according to a study in the UK by a group called Diabetes UK, middle aged men are twice as likely to suffer Type 2 diabetes than women due to lifestyle (see: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1199158/Middle-aged-men-twice-likely-suffer-Type-2-diabetes-women-lifestyle.html)

Let’s Do the Math…Or…The Ugly Truth

To save an argument about which statistical study you believe, let’s use a number of 60 million people in America (the half way point between 40 million and 79 million) who will likely become diabetic in the coming years.

Let’s also assume that 2/3 of the new cases will be men based upon the UK study. Perhaps the 2/3 percentage is high, but it makes sense to me as it certainly seems that women in general take better care of their bodies than men.

So…if there are going to be 60 million more cases of Type 2 Diabetes in the USA in the coming years and 2/3 of the cases will be men, one could assume that 40 million more men will be afflicted with Type 2 Diabetes. If 50% of those men will suffer from ED within ten years, we are talking about another 20 million American men who will likely suffer from ED.

That can’t be a good thing…for the men or their partners! I know that the intimacy derived from a healthy sex life with my wife has always been important to us. I imagine it is similar for others as well. It seems to me that ED would only further complicate an already complicated world.

What can you do about this?

The answer is easy….don’t get Type 2 Diabetes.

Ok, but how do you do that?

Again, the answer is easy….build your diet around alkaline foods and drinks instead of acidic foods and drinks.

The major cause of Type 2 diabetes is an acidic diet based upon an over indulgence of sugar, and a lack of exercise. Many of us head to the gym or participate in sports to help reshape our body, but any trainer will tell you that you are wasting your time if you don’t control what you put in your mouth. You can work out all you want, but 80% to 90% of the results will be determined by what you eat.

Unfortunately, making healthy changes to your diet is more difficult that you might think. The changes required often go against the grain of a lifetime of bad eating habits. Sugars and white flour are not healthy food choices and they make up a significant percentage of what many of us eat. Replacing sugars and flour in your diet with fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds often takes time.
Many people have found that the best place to start the journey to a new and healthier body is to drink alkaline water. You need to replace the water that your body uses up every day, so why not start by drinking water that helps your body become healthy. The effort is minimal and the results are often dramatic. Many Type 2 Diabetes sufferers find that they can reduce or eliminate their meds altogether when they start drinking ionized water. You can find very affordable water ionizers (about $300) that will help you get started. In the worst case, you will be drinking clean and healthy water that will actually save you money when compared to bottled water or sugar based (and therefore harmful) drinks.

Drinking alkaline water will help, but it won’t fix everything. . Introducing more fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds into your diet to replace the overload of processed sugary and acidic foods will slowly help you change the internal environment of your body. As you begin to feel and look better, you may find that, like many others who start the journey to a healthier lifestyle, you will start eating better . The benefits often begin to compound and you may find that you start to become more active.

You can definitely prevent and even get rid of Type 2 Diabetes with a proper diet and exercise. The connection between Type 2 Diabetes and ED is real. While men suffer directly from ED, the problem obviously affects couples as well. Don’t be a victim….this is something that you can actually control by making changes.

I laughed because the first thing that popped into my head was the similarity with the water ionizer industry.

When I was selling Tyent water ionizers a couple of years ago, the Tyent 7070 Turbo had a list price of $2,995. However, that was a bogus price and everybody knew it. The “Introductory Time Limited” price was $2,495 which was the “real” retail price. The published $500 discount was merely a “pretend” number to create the image of a “deal”.

Over time, the retail price offered by Tyent itself dropped to $2,395 and than again to $2,195. The last time I checked the Tyent website, they were offering the Tyent 7070 Turbo at $1,995. It makes sense that the product was selling for a 20% discount to the original price because the product is now a couple of years old. No problem so far.

When I was checking out websites this morning, I found that Tyent was offering an amazing “holiday special”. They are offering 30% off their retail price of $2,695 on their 7070 Turbo as well as 30% off other machines. Here is a summary of the offer on their website:

MMP-7070 TURBO: Regular Price :$2695.00 Sale Price : $1,886.50 You Save : $808.50

So, what do we have here? Tyent puts the list price up by $700 to $2,695 and then offers a $808.50 discount. Thank goodness Tyent is such a generous company and offers everyone a 30% discount

If you peel back the marketing nonsense, the “awesome deal” for $1,886.50 is actually $108.50 or a 5% saving from the previous offer of $1,995. Given that the Tyent 7070 Turbo and other electric water ionizers are just simple electronic devices, the entire industry still seems grossly overpircied. For example, how much have plasma tv’s come down in price since 2009?

How does the 7070 Turbo compare to Tyent’s 9090 Turbo (now selling for 30% off at $2,796.50). The addtional 2 plates and extra power in the 9090 don’t add any material advantage in terms of performance. In fact the extra plates and power are nothing more than a marketing ploy, and as such, are a complete waste of money. If you think Tyent is the right choice for you, save yourself the $900 and buy the 7070 Turbo at $1886.50 instead of the 9090 Turbo at $2,796.50. Or better still, shop around to find your Tyent 7070 Turbo because you can do better…….much better.

I’m not trying to pick on Tyent or anyone else. Tyent just makes it so damn easy to use them for illustration purposes. Tyent isn’t alone in using deceptive marketing and pricing tactics, so be careful. I’m not here to judge. I’m just the reporter.

I recently wrote an article about how IonWays swooped in to steal a deal away from a group that I was working with. Our group was going to sell a stylish new filtered alkaline water bottle for $49. We intended to use the profits to provide free water filtration systems to save lives in the third world. The fact that IonWays is now selling the same filters in the old style Seychelle bottles for $119.95 for a massve profit means that everyone loses except IonWays.

In the most recent “Flow” newsletter sent out by IonWays, Mr. Hare dedicated a significant part of his article to bashing me. Mr. Hare accused me of being a self proclaimed water expert. I have never claimed and never will claim to be a water expert. I research about water and share what I learn on my blog. Mr. Hare also indicated in his letter that I use my blog for self serving profit motives. What planet does this guy come from? I find it interesting that Mr. Hare appears to believe that if he “implies” that I’m making money, it somehow justifies the 800% profit margins that IonWays builds into its new Elita PhD water bottle. It appears that Mr. Hare believes that outrageous price markups are acceptable as long as others are ripping off the public to the same degree. Hmmmm!

Since Mr. Hare quotes specific articles and facts from my blog, it is safe to assume that he and his legal team have read the “About Me” section. In the section, I openly talk about my past involvement in the industry and the fact that my wife operates a “not for profit” online water ionizer store. Anyone that follows my blog knows that Mary sells at least 90% of her products at half price to cancer patients. That means nearly all of her sales are completed at or below dealer cost. When you take into consideration the cost of doing business, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that “profits” are not in the cards for Mary’s company.

Mary is one of the “good guys” in the industry. Her efforts help people who need the water but may not otherwise be able to afford a water ionizer.

It is easy to see that I don’t sell anything on my blog. The book keeper that prepares my income tax returns can verify that I don’t earn anything from my efforts in the water ionizer industry.

If Mr. Hare did his homework instead of making inaccurate assumptions or incomplete statements to defend his pricing, he would learn that my wife and I have nothing to hide. We have no problem opening up the books to Mary’s company or providing an inspection of our personal bank accounts to Mr. Hare’s auditors if Mr. Hare is prepared to do the same. When you have nothing to hide, it is easy to be transparent.

IonWays Bashes Alkastream:

Mr. Hare is an articulate writer for IonWays. He doesn’t lie, but he has a talent for twisting and manipulating the facts to support his story. Mr. Hare explained in no uncertain terms that he believes that the Alkastream is a bad product. Mr. Hare also indicated that sales of the Alkastream generate similar profit margins to IonWays new Elita PhD bottles.

Mr. Hare explained in his newsletter that the manufacturer of the Alkastream originally offered the product to IonWays for $50, which is true. He also stated that IonWays turned down the offer, which is true. What Mr. Hare didn’t bother to mention was that the original Alkastream prototype worked, but had many production flaws. I received the same prototype to test….it worked but it was a piece of junk.

Instead of choosing to fix the problems with the Alkastream and offer an affordable unit, IonWays chose to introduce the Elita, their own $1,499 antioxidant filter. That proved be another bad decision for Mr. Hare and IonWays! No wonder IonWays is in such a mess. The Elita was recently shelved due to a lack of sales. Nobody was willing to pay $1,499 when a similar product was available for $329.

I chose to work on the problems of the Alkastream machine for free. My decision to help out was based upon the fact that the unit worked and I loved the low price point. I wasn’t deterred by the fact that the prototype had flaws. The entire point of sending out prototypes for testing is to get feedback. At that time, my wife didn’t own the rights to sell the machine in Canada. Six months and 13 product improvements later, the new and vastly improved Alkasteam was available to the public for $329.

Mr. Hare conveniently chose to ignore many of the facts about the Alkastream in his newsletter. Ignoring facts is not the same as lying, but errors by ommission make for an interesting discussion. Mr. Hare didn’t disclose the fact that the numerous improvements made to the Alkastream obviously had an impact on the cost. He didn’t disclose that Alkaway, the Australian company that created the Alkastream brand charges a 50% royalty on the unit. He didn’t mention that the American dollar has declined significantly over the past two years thereby influencing costs and profit margins. He also forgot to mention that unit sells for $329 in the USA and for most of the dealers in Canada. The $399 price that appears on the Alkastream website in Canada was designed to protect dealers who refer their customers to the corporate site for educational purposes. When you do the math based upon the facts instead of a sales pitch, the profit scenario is a small fraction of what was suggested by Mr. Hare. The truth always comes out sooner or later…..actually, it comes a lot sooner than later around here which is why the water ionizer industry doesn’t like me too much…make that doesn’t like me at all.

From my personal perspective, Mr. Hare’s biggest error is his writing is his assertion that I’m tied to Alkastream, which is not true. In fact, I’m collaborating with a leading manufacturer in the USA as well as an American chemical engineer who is one of the leading experts in the world in the field of water filtration. Together, we are developing a new antioxidant filter that will be 100% “made in America”, owned by Americans, and will meet the tough California “no lead” and product claims laws (beware of throwing stones Mr. Hare as your house is made of glass). The unit will be small, sleek, and effective. It is too early to set a retail price because not all of the costs have been finalized. However, without having to pay royalty payments, overseas shipping charges, import duties, and contend with currency fluctuations, I expect people are going to be happy. The new product will definitely not have an 800% profit margin built in. When the product is ready for the market, I will fully disclose my involvement, if I choose to have one. You can be sure that my wife’s little not-for-profit website will carry the product in Canada because she has the inside track

I always respond with the same answer: “It depends upon your needs”. Everyone has individual needs and that means there is no silver bullet when it comes to water ionizers. I ask people what they want to use the machine for (drinking water, cleaning, or both), the condition of their source water, how much water they require each day, and their budget of course. When you go through the checklist, the right choice of machines becomes easy.

What the water ionizer web sites are offering in terms of education and help these days:

I decided to revisit the major water ionizer websites to see what the companies were offering in terms of education and advice. Virtually every website provides a synopsis of why you should buy their machine as opposed to a machine from another company. Most sites offer a list of benefits that they have copied from somewhere as there is very little “original” content to be found anywhere. Some offer testimonials, which don’t carry a lot of weight unless you can actually contact the people. Testimonials are even less believable because you never see anything negative. The sites all have a CONTACT US button which provides a form to fill out which requires inputting personal information. Last but not least, many sites provide a toll free telephone number which you can call in and ask questions.

I decided to contact the major water ionizer companies to see what they had to say. Hey, I’m retired and a toll free number is an open invitation, so why not have a little fun. I found that they are all a little more sophisticated than they were in the past. However, by the time each call was over, I had received “the full court press”. All the old bad habits that the industry is famous for would rise to the surface when the phone operators realized that the “sale” might be slipping away.

Live Chat

I found one water ionizer company that had an online Live Chat. Hmmmmm…..at least I could bail without being rude. It didn’t surprise me that it was the www.alkastream.us site as those guys seem to always be one step ahead of everybody else. I didn’t have to enter any personal information at all. The anonymity factor is important because I don’t want to join someone’s mailing list in order to get a little information.

When I requested a chat, I was hooked up right away to a live person instead of having to leave a message (which requires leaving contact information of course). The person answered my questions without any sales pitch, which was great. When I asked about the comparison between natural water ionizers and electric water ionizers, the person explained to me how and why natural water ionizers are preferable in terms that anyone could understand. I wanted to see how much the person actually knew about ionized water as opposed to providing stock answers so I asked some tough questions. I was surprised at the high knowledge level of the person. The thing that impressed me the most was that I didn’t get the normal salesman “runaround” when the person couldn’t answer one of my questions. The person admitted that he/she didn’t know the answer but would get back to me if I left an email address or telephone number (which I didn’t).

I asked the person how the Live Chat service was working out. I didn’t receive any details but I was told that the company was very happy with the service and was thinking about adding more people. That was nice to hear because we need more companies that are planning to grow instead of contract.

When I started learning about cell phone radiation from Howard Kalnitsky www.waveshield.ca, he indicated that the cell phone industry has been covering up the dangers of radiation from cell phones for years. He also informed me that the companies that own the Telco’s also control the media in Canada so it was very difficult to “spread the word”. I assumed he was just another frustrated businessman and didn’t give his conspiracy/cover up theory a lot of thought The Telco’s controlling the media….c’mon. Turns out the man was right. Here are some examples:

Newspaper Advertising Blackout: Mr. Kalnitsky indicated to me that he has sent emails to editors of every major newspaper in Canada about the dangers of cell phone radiation. He offered to write educational articles and advertise in their publications. Not one newspaper returned Mr. Kalnitsky’s emails. Hard to believe but true. Surely the papers must be looking for stories to fill their pages and revenue to fill their bank account. Do you think it might have something to do with the that fact that the newspapers feared losing their piece of the massive advertising pie handed out by the Telco industry?

Television Advertising Blackout: Mr. Kalnitsky contacted numerous television stations offering to participate in talk shows or to advertise his cell phone radiation blocking product on their stations. No interest. Hmmmm.

Radio Station Blackout: No interest from any station. His latest rejection came with the message from the manager of the advertising department:

“I’m not putting my career on the line on this one”

Do the above examples smack of conspiracy, or is it simply a matter of businesses wisely avoiding any potential conflict of interest with the Telco’s? The Telco industry is the second largest industry in the world and heaven knows they advertise like crazy. The news today that the two largest Telco’s in Canada teamed up to buy 75% of the local hockey team in Toronto for $1.32 billion tells you how powerful they are. Strange bedfellows for sure. I assume neither of them could pass up the opportunity to peddle their wares to hockey crazed Canadians.

Disconnect…the Movie

While big business can and does manipulate the media, they can’t control the internet. I assumed that the inevitable exposure of the risks of cell phones would eventually come as a result of the efforts of the “do gooder” bloggers like yours truly. After all, everybody loves a conspiracy story. However, I never expected to get help from Hollywood.

In 2010, Devra Davis wrote a great book called “Disconnect: The Truth About Cell Phone Radiation, What The Industry Has Done To Hide It, and How To Protect Your Family”. Reading Devra’s book should be a no-brainer but in our ADD and time-rationed society, most people won’t respond to anything if it doesn’t come in sound bites.

I’m 100% convinced now that the next big “tobacco style” cover up is taking place right now and nobody seems to care. If you have any interest whatsoever in learning about the dangers of cell phone usage, please take 4 minutes out of your busy life and watch the YouTube trailer of the new documentary “Disconnect”.

Is all of this telephone radiation conspiracy stuff just another alarmist point of view? The WHO (World Health Organization) doesn’t think so. The US government National Institute of Health (NIH) website which publishes scientific studies from all over the world doesn’t think so either as seen in the following link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2569116/ In the article in the website, you will read the following:

The NIH article quotes Dr. Lennart Hardell (oncologist and cancer epidemiologist):

We found that cell phone use is linked to gliomas [malignant brain tumors] and acoustic neuromas [benign tumors of the brain’s auditory nerve] and are showing up after only ten years,

I could go on and on about this subject as there are hundreds of scientific studies that support the position that unprotected cell phone use can be dangerous. However, we all know that time is precious. The statement at the end of the Disconnect movie trailer offered by Dane Snowden, the VP of CTIA (the International Association for the Wireless Telecommunications Industry) sums up the position of the Telco industry perfectly when he tells us:

the industry has not said once…once that cell phones are safe

Summary

It appears to me that this is not a Telco conspiracy at all. How can it be a conspiracy when the industry clearly tells us that it has never claimed cell phones are safe?

I believe the strategy of the Telco’s is irresponsible to society, but I also have to admit that their strategy is brilliant. How can any company or industry be sued when they instruct users to hold their cell phone away from their head in the owner’s manual, and never claim that cell phones are safe? After all, people won’t listen to warnings about cell phones any more than they did about tobacco….until family members start dying.

To date, I have to admit that I have been wrong as their sales continue to be as strong as ever. I recently visited the Enagic corporate website and read that they are selling 5,000 units per month, which is awesome.

How Enagic keeps up their sales with the prices they charge is a testament to their incredible marketing skills. Good for them. I have always maintained that I don’t care who people buy from as long as they drink the water. What machines people choose and what price they pay is an individual choice.

While Enagic sales continue to flourish, my sources tell me that sales for the other electronic water ionizer companies continue to suffer. It is unfortunate that companies with good products that sell for half the money continue to flounder. Two words come to mind when it comes to Enagic…..”superior marketing”.

The only water ionizer company that I know of besides Enagic that is defying the downward trend is Alkastream. Their President, Gabe Hunninghake, tells me they are signing up several new dealers every week. If that information came from any other company in the industry, my BS meter would be going off like an alarm clock. However, Gabe is as down to earth as anyone I have ever met. The news of their success doesn’t surprise me because I continue to receive lots of emails from people asking about the antioxidant filters. As the word spreads about how well the antioxidant filters work, I expect that their sales will continue to grow.

Gabe tells me that many of his dealers also sell Enagic machines. It seems that the dealers sell Enagic machines to customers that can afford $4,000 and Alkastream machines to people with a more modest budget. Kinda reminds me of General Motors selling Cadillacs and Chevrolets.

I still believe that the public will eventually learn that the low cost antioxidant filters are just as effective as the much more expensive electric machines. When that happens, I think that the electric machines will become obsolete. In the meantime, my heartfelt congratulations go out to Enagic for a job well done.

What does that mean? To me, it means that the object that I’m considering purchasing offers more benefit to me than the effort I have to put out in order to be able to afford to purchase it.

Junk Food: Does a piece of chocolate provide enough pleasure to merit the ten or twenty cents that it costs. Unfortunately for me and to many others, the answer to that one is yes despite the fact that we know that it is bad for us. Our society is filled with overweight people because junk food is a low cost way of providing temporary satisfaction. Unfortunately, in the long run, the cumulative effects to our health of over consumption of junk food exceeds the financial cost. The real cost the health risk.

GMO Food: This is a tougher decision. Monsanto/the Devil is feeding the world. Productivity is up which keeps prices down. However, what is the real cost?

Entertainment: This is a far reaching category…from music to sports to theater to movies to television to the internet and so on. Other than professional sports and some theatrical productions, entertainment is typically very inexpensive from a financial perspective. To me, the real cost is the “brain dead” time that so many of us waste in front of the television, or the loss of “family time” as we all scurry off to our offices or bedrooms to play on the “net” instead of sharing with each other.

Water: You didn’t think I would let this one sneak by did you? Most of us think water is free because it doesn’t cost anything to get a drink of water out of our taps. Once again, the cost shouldn’t be measured in terms of money. While tap water is “free”, it is often filled with poisons that cause long term health problems.

The Reverse Osmosis people (a good one can be purchased for $400 to $600) have had it right all along in that they have focused on eliminating harmful contaminants from water. Adding a Calcium/Magnesium type supplement to replace lost minerals and eating an alkaline diet to offset the acidic properties of RO water is a good solution, or, you can add an antioxidant filter ($300).

I can’t leave this topic without talking about electric water ionizers. They work…plain and simple. But, how much should you pay for it? I guess that depends upon what value you attach to your health. The Kangen guys are the only “real” electric water ionizer company as they sell 5,000 machines per month in the USA. It boggles the mind to see people paying $4,000 per machine when competitive brands that work just as well or better sell for half the money….but that’s marketing baby! The market share for the alternative brands is shrinking while the Kangen brand is growing. It looks like the only real alternatives for consumers are the antioxidant filters which sell in the $300 to $400 range. I understand that sales for the antioxidant filters are taking off, but I thought their impact would have been greater by this time. Apparently the low price of the units is holding back sales as people wonder if the product actually works. Go figure.

On a percentage basis, virtually nobody owns a water ionizer. Would you use one if it was free? Would you pay $100? $200? $500? $1,000? Does the brand make a difference to you? I would really like to know so please comment below.

I don’t know any other way to describe the success of bottled water other than to recognise that the bottles are for lazy people. There is simply no reasonable explanation for people to be wasting ridiculous amounts of money and knowingly destroying our planet with bottled water other than they are too lazy to do something about it. This may sound crazy, but I think the real problem with bottled water is recycling. People think that bottled water is ok because the bottles get recycled. Wrong….less than half of the bottles get recycled.

Electro Magnetic Fields/Radiation: My new passion. Most of us know that we should avoid living near overhead telephone wires if we can avoid it. We have been hearing from out parents since we were children to not sit too close to the tv or the computer (but for the wrong reasons). We know that using micro wave ovens kills off the useful nutrients in the foods we “nuke”. Yet so many of us ignore the evidence.

We like our cell phones, our portable phones, our computers, and our televisions. Many of us broadcast WiFi through our homes and offices. The convenience offered represents great value when it comes to dollars spent versus the pleasures or efficiency derived from them. Virtually none of us has ever considered the cost of what the radiation from these appliances does to our health until the WHO announced in March 2011 that it ranks cell phone use as a Type 2B carcinogen. What does that mean? It means that using an unprotected cell phone may cause cancer. What does it cost to protect yourself or your children from this? Twenty bucks for lab tested shields that offer a 97% a reduction of the EMR’s entering your ear canal. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I have also learned that shields can also reduce the EMR from your computer screen by 89%, but you need four of them. My solution to reducing EMR’s from computer screens is to keep the screens a full arm’s length away (about 3 feet from my face as my hands rest on the keypad). I find that resting my arms on the desk also reduces the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.

I could go on and on about the value of things because the selection of items to choose from is endless. The old adage that the best things in life are free still holds true. For everything else, there is…..do your homework and please consider all the costs, not just the price tag.

I can’t see that ever changing, but I have to admit that my attention these days is focused on the dangers of radiation being emitted from cell and portable phones.

The similarity between the modern day Telco’s (Telephone Companies) and the Tobacco Companies in the 1940s and 1950s in regards to knowingly withholding the truth about the dangers of using their products is frightening.

Wikipedia tells us that there are over 5 billion cell phones in use worldwide. In the USA, there are 327 million cell phones in use and only 310 million people, including children and the aged. It should not come as a surprise that the Telco industry is the second largest industry in the world.

Are the Electro Magnetic Radiation (EMR) Waves From Cell Phones Dangerous?

Yes.

Despite the denials from the Telco’s and the studies that produce the results that they are seeking, the evidence is mounting every day. The WHO (World Health Organization) has announced that EMR emissions from cell phones are ranked as a Group 2B Carcinogen based upon the findings of the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer). That means that the EMR from cell phones is possibly carcinogenic to humans.

I’m certainly not an expert on this topic, but it is inconceivable to me that as the cumulative usage of cell and portable phones increases, we will witness a virtual explosion in the number of Glioma cases being reported. For those that don’t know, Glioma is an inoperable brain cancer that affects 50,000 Americans per year and is expected to reach 500,000 cases by 2015. While not all Glioma cases are specifically tied to cell and portable phone usage, the correlation is hard to refute.

What are the Telco’s doing about it?

Deny, deny, deny. While the Canadian office of Panasonic (the makers of portable phones) wanted to include the use of an EMR blocking shield on their phones, the legal department in the Japanese head office killed the idea. Why? It certainly can’t be about the cost of the shields because if a major phone company installed the shields during the manufacturing process, the cost would be minimal. So what is the reason?

When an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) such as a Telco adds a safety feature, it begs the question of why didn’t they install the safety feature in earlier models? The Telco’s could easily say that they didn’t know before now and I think the public would “buy” the explanation. I believe that lawyers are behind the reason the Telco’s are not doing the obvious and responsible thing by installing shields on their products.

It is easy to envision a legal team soliciting the families of victims of Glioma in a class action suit against a specific Telco. The suit would be based upon the fact the Telco should have known. I spoke to a retired engineer this week that used to work for a Telco. He said that the company he worked for was aware many years ago that the emissions from their phones were harmful. If I can find a retired employee in a few days who is willing to spill the beans, imagine how much dirt a well financed team of lawyers could dig up.

It seems that the Telco’s are doing exactly what the tobacco companies did in the past in regards to denying the truth. They use “cool” advertisements just like the tobacco companies. They never mention the dangers except in the small print of their user manuals. While the Telco’s won’t admit their products are potentially harmful, the do advise that you should hold your phone away from your ear.

Why do you suppose that Telco’s advise us to hold our cell and portable phones away from our ears? Do they think it will perform better? Perhaps they are just hedging their bets knowing full well that their products can cause brain cancer. After all, if you inform your customers in the user manual to hold the phone away from the ear, you have certainly provided a clearly stated warning. They also know that the effects of EMR are cumulative over time. Since people change their phones many times over the years, how are customers every going to prove that a specific phone form a specific company caused the cancer?

The Telco’s are as guilty as hell, but proving it will be very difficult. The Telco’s will continue to support research products that will “prove inconclusive” when it comes to linking EMR emissions from their products to brain cancer. The Telco’s control the television, print, and radio media because they are huge advertisers.

What the Telco’s Can’t Control

The Telco’s can’t control the internet. They can’t control bloggers. They can’t control Mothers who want to protect their children. The kids of today like cool products like I phones and Blackberries and Androids. However, the kids aren’t dumb by any stretch of the imagination.

What can you do to protect yourself and your family?

If you are reading this article, please talk to your kids about the EMR dangers of cell phones. Encourage them to use text messaging instead of talking on the phone because the risk goes down 10,000 times if the device is as little as six inches away. Also encourage them to use the speaker on the phone for the same reason. If they do have to put the phone to their ear, encourage them to keep the calls short in duration.

You can also buy EMR blocking devices for your cell and portable phones. There are many stickers on the market that go on the back of the phone that supposedly harmonize the signal. Unfortunately, the theory doesn’t make sense because a sticker won’t block the EMR unless you completely cover the phone…you can check this out yourself at

The problem with total blocking devices is that they are really inconvenient because you can’t use your phone without removing the blocking device. So, what should you do? The best solution that I have found is to use a shield that covers the ear piece. The shield blocks the radiation would otherwise go through the ear canal directly to your brain. The ear canal allows for 94% transmission of radiation to the brain, making it very receptive. Bone on the other hand is much more resistant to transmission of EMR.

When things were quiet, I got a chance to speak with a number of exhibitors. The exhibitors were very well informed about their products rather than simply being sales people. I assume that companies had their best people at the show because it was a show for health care professionals and health food store owners as opposed to the public.

One product that really jumped out at me was a telephone EMR (Electro Magnetic Radiation) blocker called Wave Shield (www.waveshield.ca). Their product doesn’t block all of the radiation emitted from cell phones and portable phones as that would be impossible unless you wrapped the entire phone in their mesh shield material. However, their shield does block up to 99% of the EMR transmission from the earpiece which otherwise would enter the ear canal.

I noticed that his booth had a few visitors like everybody else on Saturday, but then his booth was inundated with customers on Sunday. It seems that the word about what he was selling was spreading as the show progressed. Both vendors and visitors were flocking to his booth to pick up his product. I became intrigued with the product and asked the vendor lots of questions during the show. Following the show, I started researching the topic, which is why I have done so little writing on my blog in the last few weeks.

I quickly learned that the topic of electro magnetic frequencies being transmitted from cell and portable telephones is very controversial. On May 31, 2011 The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) as a (group) 2B carcinogen. A 2B rating means that it has the potential to be a carcinogen. Other materials that you might be familiar with with a 2B rating are leaded gasoline and car exhaust. The announcement immediately set off a series of denials from phone companies who pointed out studies which denied the correlation between cell phone use and brain cancer. For example, a study published last month performed in Belgium on 300,000 people over the last ten years provided inconclusive results. However, the leading authorities in the world on the topic quickly pointed out the flaws in the study.

I can’t help but wonder who financed such a large study. I’m looking at funding a study of 20 people and I have been quoted a price of approximately $100,000. If it costs $5,000 per person for a proper scientific study, then a 300,000 person study would likely cost $1.5 billion. Hmmm….who has that kind of money?

My Findings:

The following are some facts that I have learned in the past few weeks. I have left out all the technical stuff because the few readers that actually care about that can find their answers online:

1) Children are much more susceptible to the effects of radiation from telephones than adults because their skulls are thinner and don’t fully develop until their early twenties.
2) Children under 14 years of age in many European countries are not allowed to use cell phones
3) The user manuals for most cell phones and portable phones recommend that you should hold the phone no closer one inch from your ear
4) Senator Ted Kennedy died last year from a tumor at the end of his ear canal (Glioma).
5) Johnny Cochrane (O.J. Simpson’s lead lawyer) died from the same type of brain tumor.
6) 50,000 Americans per year are now being diagnosed with the same type of malignant tumor.
7) It is expected that 500,000 new cases of brain tumors are expected to be reported by 2015. This estimate is based upon the fact that the transmission signal of the phones is much stronger than in the past, and also due to the fact that so many more people are using cell and portable phones these days

Q & A With The Wave Shield Guy:

I have provided a Q & A section below of questions that I asked Mr. Howard Kalnitsky (the gentleman that I met at the show who is the rights holder of the Wave Shield in Canada) to answer. The answers are not exact quotes, but they are accurate in content:

Q. How could a little piece of screen block the radiation?
A. The screen is made of the same material that is used in the suits of the workers who clean up radiation spills such as the recent Nuclear Reactor disaster in Japan. When you seal the Wave Shield around the speaker, 99% of the radiation is blocked from entering the ear canal.

Q. How do you know it actually works?
A. We have all kinds of testing from accredited research labs around the world. However, a simple experiment that you can see on our website shows that if you take the material used in a Waveshield and wrap it around a cell phone, the phone can’t send or receive messages. You can’t get anymore clear about the blocking capabilities than that.

Q. Can you explain why the phone companies and governments claim there is no danger from cell and portable telephone radiation?
A. The tobacco companies and governments denied the claims that cigarette smoke was harmful for generations despite growing and eventually overwhelming evidence. The governments didn’t do anything until successful lawsuits forced them to act.

We approached Panasonic’s head office in Canada about including the shields with their cordless phones. Although they loved the product, they chose not to enter into business with us. The reason that they declined was based upon feedback from their head office in Japan. They explained that there was a concern that if the company started providing a blocking device like ours now, why hadn’t they been providing the device for the past ten years.

I have approached every major newspaper in the country about doing an article and have never received a response. That is not a surprise to me because of the massive amount of advertising revenue the newspapers receive from the cellular phone companies.

I have had 2 different on-air radio interviews suddenly terminated when we began discussing that cell phones are potentially dangerous. In both cases, the radio stations were owned by corporate entities that are involved in the Telco industry.

Q. I have been checking out a number of shields for sale online. Do they all work?
A. We have checked them all out. Most of the products don’t do what they claim to do. Unless a company is willing to provide you with scientific evidence from certified research facilities indicating their test results, I would save my money.

In 2002, when the shields started gaining in popularity, someone (he didn’t name the Telco’s but he didn’t have to) contacted the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) in the USA in regards to the claims being made by various vendors. The FTC shut down every company except Wave Shield. The reason that the Wave Shield survived while the others were shut down was due to the fact that we had proper testing to meet and exceed the requests of the FTC and we didn’t make unsubstantiated claims.

Q. Cell phones are getting all the press. What about the safety of the portable phones that we carry around in our houses?
A. There has been less testing on portable phones, but our research indicates that they may be up to three times as dangerous as cell phones. People should leave their portable phones in the cradle as opposed to sitting them elsewhere to let the battery run down. In addition, people should set the phone a foot or two away and use the speaker during conversations.

Q. Are the “blue tooth” products safe as they have a weaker transmission?
A. While blue tooth signals are not as powerful, there is still radiation being delivered into the ear canal and the effect over time is cumulative. Think about having a blue tooth device turned on and in your ear all day for five days per week…..not good!

Q. Any recommendations to offer readers?
A. People should limit their conversations as much as possible while on a cell or portable phone. They should use the speaker phone whenever possible. Texting should be encouraged, especially for kids. They should always have a shield on both types of phones. Parents should pay particular attention to their kid’s phones as they are more susceptible. Portable phone users should always leave the phones in the cradle except when in use. The base stations for portable phones should not be placed on a bedside table. People, or more specifically kids should not be going to bed with cell phones under their pillows. People should not be carrying cell phones in their pockets or attached to their hips.

Q. If people shouldn’t carry cell phones in their pockets or on their hip, where should they keep them?
A. Women should carry their phone in their purse. If that is not an option, protective cell phone carrying cases available on the market that block the majority of radiation. However, the phones have to be removed from the cases each time you want to use them which is cumbersome. If you do carry a cell phone in your pocket, always turn the screen side towards your body.

Q. Are wired headsets safer than talking on a cell or portable phone?
A. Until recently, it was thought that wired headsets were a safer alternative. We now know that the wire running between the headset and the telephone is acting as an antenna and can magnify the signal up to three times. Therefore, this is not a safer solution.

Howard’s final commments

He explained to me that every inch that a phone is away from the body is of critical importance. For example, if you keep the phone just six inches away from your body, the potential risk goes down by over 10,000 times.

He indicated that the Wave Shield is not a total solution to block all radiation, but is in fact designed specifically to block radiation entering the ear canal. This is important because the ear has the highest absorption rate of radiation in the body at 94%.

Ultimately the best solution for preventing brain tumors from the radiation emitted from cell or portable phones is a combination of the use of a legitimate blocking shield and intelligent usage of the telephones.

Summary:

I can’t prove that cell phone and portable phones cause cancer. However, after reading extensively, I put shields on our portable phones at home. I have also put shields on our kid’s cell phones as well as the phones that Mary and I use. The kids (we have 5) all asked me to put shields on the phones of their respective boyfriends and girlfriends, which makes me happy.

I have no doubt that the Telco’s will continue to deny the correlation between the transmissions emitted from their products and brain tumors. I also have no doubt that they will be the subject of class action lawsuits in the future and I expect the scenario to play out in much the same way that it did for the tobacco companies. This all seems so stupid to me because the Telco’s could just start putting the shields on their products now. Yes, they would likely get hit with some legal costs, but it would be a fraction of what it will be in the future. The Telco industry is the second largest industry in the world, so the numbers are only going to get bigger over time.

While it continues to be a struggle for me to educate people about the benefits of drinking clean healthy water, the dangers of cell and portable phones is gaining widespread awareness through the media. The fact that the shields only cost about $20 makes them affordable for anyone. Even if the WHO and all the leading authorities in the world on the subject (not including those on the payrolls of the Telco’s) are wrong about the dangers of radiation from phones, doesn’t it make sense to protect yourself for $20 “Just in Case”?

Electric water ionizer sites continue to spread misleading information in an effort to support their sales. One site I checked out inspired the content and title of this article. Here is the link http://alkalinewater.com/non-electric-water-ionizers/

The above website is run by someone with obvious ties to an electric water ionizer company. The website advertises a number of fake review sites to bash the competition and to promote their own line of electric water ionizers. The site also advertises the opportunity to “Get In on the Billion Dollar Water Ionizer Industry” by becoming a dealer of their company.

What a load of garbage.

Anyone that does their research knows that the review sites that are being advertised are phony. If the water ionizer industry ever achieves annual sales of a billion dollars, it will be the result of the public becoming aware of how and why the machines work and therefore, why they are important. Sales figures of a billion dollars per year will also depend upon the machines being affordable to the average family. To date, only the non-electric/anti-oxidant water ionizer companies are addressing the educational aspect or the affordability issue.

To date, the electric water ionizer companies continue to produce phony review sites and now, misleading articles like the one in the link above. The article if full of misleading information. Was the misleading information intentional like so many other efforts in the past, or was the author simply ignorant of the facts? I will give the author the benefit of the doubt and chalk up the misleading article to a lack of research. It is much easier to continue forward in one’s thinking, even if it is wrong, than to question ingrained doctrines and spend hundreds of hours researching.

In the article, the author informs reader that antioxidant filters/non-electric water ionizers don’t produce antioxidants:

These types of alkaline water will have a pH of 8.5 to 9.5 created by adding alkaline minerals to the water. What they don’t offer are the antioxidant properties found in alkaline ionized water, which is produced through the process of electrolysis.

Wrong! I have to question whether the author knows what antioxidants are, or how or why they work. Antioxidants are energy donating ionic charges associated with atoms or molecules which combine with and diffuse harmful energy stealing oxidants such as free oxygen inside your body.

Electrolysis can assist in the creation of antioxidants by concentrating the alkali minerals in the source water at the anode of an ionization chamber. It is the process of the water molecules reacting to energy donating alkali minerals that causes the surplus of hydroxyl ions versus hydrogen ions that provide dramatic temporary changes in the pH and ORP levels when water is subjected to electrolysis. While pH and ORP are easy to measure, it is the availability of the free hydrogen created by the presence of alkali minerals in the ionized water that provides both energy and the beneficial antioxidant ions.

Ionization creates antioxidants because the attraction of the oxygen atom in a water molecule to magnesium or other alkali metal is stronger than the attraction to hydrogen. The resulting “cast off” free hydrogen is a building block to human health and survival. You don’t need electrolysis to create ionization. In fact, the scientific community views electrolysis as “electrocuting” the water which erases the valuable memory in water. I will leave that subject for another day.
