Chemotherapy Doesn’t Work For Cancer

I believe that the quotation above is the greatest insight ever offered by the man that invented the light bulb, the phonograph, and the movie camera.

I grew up as a son of a medical doctor and have always had the utmost respect for the medical world. There is definitely a place in our society for medical doctors. They can set bones, stitch up wounds, and provide medical procedures in both emergency and non-emergency situations. However, when it comes to health care, or disease prevention and cures, medical doctors are completely out of their league.

It is not a crime to be misinformed or uneducated about a topic. When it comes to medicine and the practice of health care, the crime is that our doctors are being misled about how to treat cancer during their training in medical schools. The fact that the public trusts doctors when it comes to cancer treatments just makes it worse.

How can it possibly be true that doctors are being taught misleading information about the use of chemotherapy as a treatment for cancer?

Let’s look at the facts:

* chemotherapy is only successful in curing cancer in the USA 2.1% of the time
* the ratio would be much closer to zero if the medical world didn’t consider that anyone who lives five years after receiving treatment was cured…if you die 5 years and a day later, the chemo treatment is still considered a cure…reoccurrences at a later date don’t count against the “cured” designation
* 81% of oncologists that prescribe chemo to cancer patients every day would not choose chemo treatments for themselves if they got cancer

What is the conventional wisdom behind administering chemotherapy for cancer treatments?

The basis for the inclusion of chemotherapy is that the drugs will kill off cells that reproduce the fastest. The thinking is that if you kill off the rapidly growing cancer cells, you will kill off the cancer. Chemotherapy is a poison that is administered which kills cells.

What actually happens when chemotherapy is administered

The goal is to kill the cancer cells, but chemo actually kills all the cells. The fact that chemo patients lose their hair, experience nausea and vomiting, and suffer many longer term side effects is a testament that the poison doesn’t discriminate about what cells it kills.

When you take chemo, the drug essentially pushes you towards death. Over the past sixty years, doctors have had lots of experience using chemo, to they have learned how to push you to the edge of death and then bring you back from the edge of the cliff before you die. Once you have had sufficient time to recover, they repeat the process….over and over again. If the procedure worked, you might be able to justify in your mind that the archaic and barbaric treatment….but it doesn’t work!

It simply doesn’t make sense to poison a trillion cells in your body to the point of near death in order to prevent the growth of a few cells located in a very small and specific location.

If you have been diagnosed with cancer and your oncologist has recommended chemotherapy, ask your doctor the following questions:

* What is your doctor trying to achieve with the treatment? Reducing the size of a tumor is often the objective, but reducing the size of a tumor as a goal is pointless
* How effective is the chemotherapy going to be in curing “your” cancer?
* What are the expected side effects, both short and long term?
* Would the doctor take the same treatment if she/he were in the same situation
* What alternatives are available?
* How effective are the alternatives?

You are much more likely to get “bad attitude” than satisfactory answers to the questions above.

So now what?

I often read blogs and articles where people bash away at ideas. I’m ok with that, but it really isn’t useful to me unless the author suggests an alternative for me to consider. I have been researching the work done by Dr. Leonard Coldwell. The man has treated 35,000 patients and it is believed he has the highest cancer cure rate in the world.

In fact, I am convinced I could cure at least 90% of all cancer patients if I had the legal platform to work with these people the “Dr Coldwell Way.” As long as the patient is willing and still able to do whatever it takes and has no surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, there is no reason Cancer cannot be cured in most people.

What else?

My favorite “cancer docs” in the USA are Dr. Stanislaw Burzinski in Texas and Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez in New York.

Dr. Burzinski is known for his remarkable success for his work with replacing antineoplastons, a peptide that he believes is missing in cancer patients. The man is constantly battling the medical establishment because of the success which doesn’t conform to standard protocols of the profession. Dr. Burzinski believes that each case must be looked at on an individual basis because every case is different. Dr. Burzinski tells us that it is imperative for cancer patients to avoid chemotherapy or other conventional treatments before starting work with him.

I once spoke with one of Dr. Burzinski’s patients who had been cured of cancer. She told me that when she was finished with her treatment, she asked Dr. Burzinski “what is the one thing he would recommend to her to help her from ever getting cancer again?” Dr. Burzinski told her to drink ionized alkaline water. Is there any question why I’m a “Burzinski” fan?

Dr. Gonzalez has also achieved remarkable success in treating cancer and other serious illnesses by means of a proper diet. Dr. Gonzalez builds individual cancer fighting diets for each patient because he believes that “no one program fits all”.

If you have cancer now, the following information will likely not help you because the center and not been built yet. However, if you are interested in learning about an awesome new strategy for dealing with cancer through alternative methods, check out www.americanaci.org. They are planning to build a huge wellness/teaching facility in Washington State. If the group is successful in launching their plans, I expect that the facility will be the epicenter of alternative medicine in the USA. The President of the group, Bob Wright has written a book called “Killing Cancer – Not People” that you can buy online. Guess what his group believes is the single most important factor is in curing cancer? Ionized alkaline water. Does anyone see a trend here?

Summary

You owe it to yourself or a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer to research all possible avenues of care before choosing a path. There will be massive pressure to “do something” from your doctors, your family, and from your own conscience.

After all of my research on the subject of cancer, I can tell you that I will never take chemotherapy treatments. Chemo clearly doesn’t work. Other therapies clearly do work. It is not my place to tell anyone what to do. However, I feel compelled to share what I have learned.

It seems obvious to me that every cancer patient needs and deserves to be treated on a one-on-one basis by people who actually know what they are doing. I’m not referring to oncologists who practice standard protocols that have never worked. Regular ocolgists don’t have the knowledge, the ability to bill for alternative treatments that work, the time, or the backing of their own fraternity to properly treat cancer patients. When cancer strikes, nothing is more important than learning everything you can and finding the best treatment possible.

If I allow myself one piece of advice, it would be to do lots of homework and ask lots of questions before submitting to chemotherapy. All of the leading cancer treatment specialist tell us that once chemotherapy has been administered, the chances of survival drop dramatically because of the damage done to one’s immune system.

When my Dad was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 1997, we just went along with the chemotherapy treatment that was recommended by his Doctors. No alternatives were offered and chemotherapy seemed to us to be the only game in town. What the chemo treatments did was to make my Dad extremely sick and weak. Yes, the chemo did delay my Dad’s death by a couple of months, but the treatments made the final months of his life a living hell. I can’t begin to describe the anguish that I felt as I watched the drugs steal his health and dignity. My Dad deserved better! If I knew then what I know now, things would have been very different. My Dad might not have survived, but he would have had a much better chance of living and he wouldn’t have been tortured by the effects of drugs.

Enagic: Amazing Success Story

I have written in the past that I thought it was inevitable that the Enagic MLM system would crash because of the high price of their machines. To date, I have to admit that I have been wrong as their sales continue to be as strong as ever. I recently visited the Enagic corporate website and read that they are selling 5,000 units per month, which is awesome.

How Enagic keeps up their sales with the prices they charge is a testament to their incredible marketing skills. Good for them. I have always maintained that I don’t care who people buy from as long as they drink the water. What machines people choose and what price they pay is an individual choice.

While Enagic sales continue to flourish, my sources tell me that sales for the other electronic water ionizer companies continue to suffer. It is unfortunate that companies with good products that sell for half the money continue to flounder. Two words come to mind when it comes to Enagic…..”superior marketing”.

The only water ionizer company that I know of besides Enagic that is defying the downward trend is Alkastream. Their President, Gabe Hunninghake, tells me they are signing up several new dealers every week. If that information came from any other company in the industry, my BS meter would be going off like an alarm clock. However, Gabe is as down to earth as anyone I have ever met. The news of their success doesn’t surprise me because I continue to receive lots of emails from people asking about the antioxidant filters. As the word spreads about how well the antioxidant filters work, I expect that their sales will continue to grow.

Gabe tells me that many of his dealers also sell Enagic machines. It seems that the dealers sell Enagic machines to customers that can afford $4,000 and Alkastream machines to people with a more modest budget. Kinda reminds me of General Motors selling Cadillacs and Chevrolets.

I still believe that the public will eventually learn that the low cost antioxidant filters are just as effective as the much more expensive electric machines. When that happens, I think that the electric machines will become obsolete. In the meantime, my heartfelt congratulations go out to Enagic for a job well done.

You Want Clinical Proof? Here It Is

I have been relating stories and publishing testimonials about the health benefits of drinking hydrogen ions produced by water ionizers for years. No matter how many people provide anecdotal evidence, the medical profession has shunned and even ridiculed the benefits of ionized water.

Until the water industry can provide scientific evidence that ionized water provides benefits beyond simple hydration, the doctors and everyone else will treat the industry with skepticism.

People want scientific proof backed by proper studies

Those who have been around the water ionizer industry for any length of time know the water works. The problem is that getting proper studies done is expensive…..crazy expensive. The outrageous costs of seeing the study process through to FDA approval is beyond anyone but the pharmaceutical companies.

Despite the insanely high costs of clinical research, progress is being made on a number of fronts. The fact that people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on the smallest of studies, where there is little or no chance of recouping the costs, should tell you something.

I have been focusing my research on North American studies on water because nobody in America seems to give any credit to Japanese studies. There are numerous studies that have been completed or are in progress that clearly demonstrate the benefits of drinking mineral rich ionized water. The US government NIH (National Institute of Health) webstite is an incredible source of information for those that are interested.

A Study that Proves Hydrogen Ions Created in Ionized Water Are Effective Antioxidants

You will see lots of “claims” on the internet about the benefits of the water, but every site making the claims puts in a Disclaimer. Now there is an oxymoron for you. You will see “our machines or our water will do blah blah blah” folled by a Disclaimer. Geez, no wonder people are skeptical. You never actually see American studies on humans that people can actually sink their teeth into. They are out there, but nobody in the water ionizer industry wants to spend any time doing their research because there is no “fast” money in it.

I recently checked out a study with the title “Effectiveness of Hydrogen Rich Water on Antioxidant Status of Subjects with Potential Metabolic Syndrome”. The research was headed up by the Heart, Lung and Esophageal Surgery Institute, Department of Surgery, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, USA. The actual study was conducted at KGK Synergize, Inc., London, Canada.

Pub Med Health, the US National Library of Medicine describes Metabolic Syndrome as:

a name for a group of risk factors that occur together and increase the risk for coronary artery disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes

You can combat Metabolic Syndrome diseases with an alkaline diet, or alkaline water.

I called the research faciltiy in London the other day and talked to the person who was in charge of administering the study. Even though the study was small, the results were conclusive….and expensive!

The study provides clinical proof that hydrogen ions produced by running water over magnesium are effective and powerful antioxidants….not ancedotal evidence….clinical evidence. The exact wording from the summary of the study is as follows:

“The consumption of hydrogen rich water for 8 weeks resulted in a 39% increase (p<0.05) in antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and a 43% decrease (p<0.05) in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in urine. Further, subjects demonstrated an 8% increase in high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and a 13% decrease in total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol from baseline to 4 weeks

What does this mean? The study showed that participants who drank hydrogen rich water demonstrated a massive increase in the antioxidant enzyme (SOD) and a massive decrease in acid in the urine (TBARS). In addition, participants showed a significant increase in HDL the “good cholesterol”, and a significant decrease in the “bad cholesterol”.

My guess is that a more comprehensive study would have demonstrated other health benefits if more parameters were examined. We will never know without further studies.

Now What?

I will solicit the water ionizer companies to join together to finance additional studies. The goal of the studies would be to investigate and provide scientific evidence that drinking ionized water creates powerful antioxidants, and is beneficial for weight loss, type 2 diabetes, acid reflux, and heart disease. It’s time that the businesses that stand to profit the most from the studies invest in scientific research so that they can back up their claims.

I doubt that the water industry guys will put up the money because they have demonstrated an incredible lack of foresight when it comes to education and research. I will figure something one way or another because the testing needs to be done. I don’t know how I will raise the hundreds of thousands of dollars required to complete a small study, but where there’s a will, there is a way. This will happen!

When the study results are published in a scientific or medical journal, the doctors will no longer be able to turn their backs. The drug companies will have to find a clever way to discredit the research so that doctors don’t recommend the water because water will represent a massive threat to prescription drug sales. Even if the drug companies find a way to mislead doctors, you can be sure that people like myself will be out there alerting the public of the truth.

I wish that a few of the thousands of bloggers who write about healthy diets and exercise would wake up to the fact that water plays a huge role in maintaining good health.

Teach Your Kids About Sodas…Before It’s Too Late

When will our legislators wake up and stop companies like Coca Cola and PepsiCo from destroying the lives of our citizens and contributing to enormous health care issues and expenses? Probably NEVER!

The people who run the companies selling Coke and Pepsi know that their products are ruining lives and contributing to disease and death all over the world. They don’t care. Hey baby, it’s all about freedom of choice. Besides, harmful acidic drinks full of sugar puts smiles on the faces of hundreds of millions of unsuspecting, uneducated people every day….and lots of money in their pockets.

The people who run Coca Cola and PepsiCo are not dummies. Far from it. They know that the world will eventually figure out that their products are far more harmful to society than cigarettes. Before you say that can’t be true, think about what sodas are doing to our society. Obesity, diabetes, and even cancer, can be tied to the insanely high consumption of sodas in America….and all without a warning label. The burden on our health care system from sodas is unbelievable. Yes, other factors such as McDonalds et al contribute, but sodas are the key to the downfall of the health of our society.

Want to lose weight?

Stop drinking sodas. If you change nothing else in your life other than switching from drinking one soda per day to one glass of water, you will lose 14 pounds per year. Want to gain weight? Drink sodas as the opposite of the above is true for putting on weight.

It gets worse!

Coke has a pH of about 2.5. So what? Since the pH scale is logarithmic, much like the Richter scale which measures earthquakes, a pH of 2.5 is 50,000 times more acidic than pure water. Hmmmm…..sounds bad, but what does it mean?

Your blood needs to be slightly alkaline in the 7.3 to 7.4 pH range. If the pH of your blood strays outside that tight range, the consequences are bad and can lead to death. Your body will do whatever it has to do in order to maintain the pH in your blood in the proper pH range. The only defense your body has is for the blood to confiscate alkali minerals from other parts of your body. Your body will steal calcium from your bones and teeth leading to osteoporosis and dental problems. Your body will steal magnesium from your bones and cells. While calcium loss and calcium supplements get all the headlines, your body can’t even process calcium without magnesium. Your body will also grab the limited amount of iodine that your body stores from your thyroid, which controls metabolism in your body.

Ionizer Pricing, Warranty, Leasing

I had a call this week from someone that informed me that Tyent USA was now leasing their machines. That seemed like good news to me because it could present the opportunity for people to get a machine that might otherwise be impossible.

I jumped on the Tyent USA site to check out the deal. I wish I hadn’t bothered. This article started out about leasing, but as often is the case, a bit of research led me in multiple directions.

Pricing

Tyent USA offers their 7070 Turbo model for $2,395. A quick check on EBay showed that people are selling the exact same brand new unit for $1,995 and $1,895 and a couple more are selling for under $1,500.

Tyent USA advertises on EBay that if anyone sells for less than the retail price, the warranty is null and void. Tyent USA and other companies make the warranty threat in an effort to hold the retail prices at ridiculous levels. Anyone that reads my blog knows that all the leading water ionizers cost $500 or less coming out of Asia and that you can get much better pricing if you do some research.

Warranty

How much is the warranty for a 7070 Turbo worth? I bring this up because the discounts being offered are $900 less than retail prices. Here are some factors to consider:

1) The manufacturer offers a one year warranty and anyone can make a claim.
2) Tyent makes reliable machines and the unit has been around for a couple of years which means the bugs have been worked out. When I sold Tyent machines a few years ago, there were not many warranty claims and the few that did come in were almost always in the first few days or weeks.
3) Tyent USA will honor any warranty no matter what they say. The cost of replacement parts are very low and they can then sell you very profitable replacement filters every six months for years.
4) Who are these water ionizer companies trying to kid with lifetime warranties? What machine lasts a lifetime? Tyent USA introduces new models all the time and they discontinue the old models. They also discontinue entire lines, such as the IonQuench that they introduced a couple of years ago. How would you like to be an IonQuench customer? Do you really think Tyent USA is going to be around it 50 years? I doubt they will be around in five years if they even make it that long.

Leasing

When I checked out the Tyent USA website to investigate the leasing deal, I was shocked. Tyent USA is offering the Tyent Turbo 7070 for $300 down and $95 per month for 36 months. At the end of 36 months, you have the option to purchase the machine for the equivalent of three more monthly payments ($285).

If you choose the leasing option, you end up paying over $4,600 for the machine. This is the same machine that the company offers for $2,395 and the same machine that you can buy on EBay for under $1,500.

Summary

Ignore the retail prices of electric water ionizers. You can buy great machines for as little as $995. In the alternative, you can buy Antioxidant Filters, which provide the same health benefits plus they remove the contaminants from the water for as little as $329

The companies will all honor the warranties despite their threats. It costs them very little to do so and they can then sell you filters for years which are very profitable.

Stay away from leasing as the cost is horrendous. You can buy an Antioxidant filter for virtually the same price as the down payment of an electric water ionizer.

I don’t mean to pick on Tyent USA, but they just make it so easy. Many of the other companies partake in the same foolish behaviors. No wonder the electric water ionizer industry is in such a mess

I Want to Smack my Doctor

I have an Irish/Welsh background. Generally speaking, that means that I’m probably predisposed to having a bad temper.

I have spent most of my life learning to control my natural aggressive impulses when it comes to relationships. Life is just easier that way. Years of physical sports and martial arts have definitely helped me to “keep it together”.

I’m the son of a physician and to this day, I have never respected anyone more than my father. Of course he had his issues, but don’t we all? He was a great man in so many ways. My respect for my father extended to my respect for his trade…the medical profession.

Why I drifted away from western medicine

In recent years, I have drifted away from allopathic medicine towards natural medicine. That doesn’t mean that I have turned my back on western medicine. It is more about the respect I have gained for the wisdom of preventative care. It simply makes sense to focus our self-care on what we eat and drink, getting exercise, and relieving stress. There are endless books on the subject, but it is really simple…take care of your body and it will continue to operate as the most sophisticated machine in the world.

I stopped visiting my family physician three years ago. At that time, he had just prescribed Lipitor to lower my cholesterol level. The prescription was going to be my third drug that I would be taking on the “forever plan” as he also had me on Arthrotec for arthritis and Pantaloc to control acid reflux. He never sat me down and explained that all I had to do was change my diet and lifestyle.

My wife was responsible for changing my health…not my doctor. I have been feeling so great since I started drinking ionized water three years ago that I stopped visiting my physician. After all, it was my wife who helped me get better, not my doctor.

I haven’t had a cold or any kind of illness for the past three years. My allergies disappeared as did my arthritis and my acid reflux. In fact, nobody in our family (seven of us) has been sick for years.

Why I returned to western medicine

In June, my son was away on a “kids” weekend. A few days later, he developed a chest cough. My wife then caught it and so did I, which was extremely unusual. The next thing I know, I’m having trouble peeing. At age 54, having trouble peeing is a sign of prostate issues. I called my family doctor who was too busy to see me and he was heading off for a vacation the next week. He suggested I visit a walk-in clinic and I followed his advice.

The doctor at the clinic performed a DRE (digital rectal exam) and told me that my prostate felt good (smooth and soft) but it was enlarged. That prompted a PSA test. Now, PSA tests are known for false positives and generally causing alarm. However, a PSA test is one form of screening. The results came back and my PSA level was over 30…..yikes!

The clinic called me and said I had to visit again right away….not what anyone wants to hear. I popped by and the doctor told me that my PSA level was very high and a transrectal ultrasound was ordered. The doctor informed to me contact my family physician immediately to discuss the results. She also referred me to a specialist (urologist).

When I called my family doctor with the PSA results, I was given an appointment the same day. When I visited my family doctor, he was angry with me for not visiting him each year. He waved my file in my face and told me “you know you have cancer don’t you”. He then proceeded to refer me to the same urologist.

When my family physician of 25 years told me that I had cancer, I believed him. He didn’t say anything about the fallibility of PSA tests or that an enlarged prostate is not unusual for a 54 year old man. He just shook his head and told me that we had to get moving on this asap.

I don’t know how anyone else reacts when they are told they have cancer, but I just felt numb. I couldn’t believe I had cancer. I drink ionized water religiously and the water helps your body become alkaline. Cancer can’t survive in an alkaline body. I have referred the water to dozens if not hundreds of people with cancer over the past three years. While the results have not always helped, especially in late stage cancer, there are just way too many success stories to ignore. How could I have cancer?

Things change the minute you learn you have cancer. You tell your loved ones and friends that count. The out pouring of love and support is amazing, but nothing really helps and it is painful to see that the people you love are hurting from the news.

My personal battle against my cancer began immediately. Researching, drinking lots of water, eating a strict alkaline diet. There are also the visits to the doctor and the labs for tests. All in all, it made for a crappy summer.

The good news

The visit to the urologist brought hope. He performed a DRE and indicated that my prostate felt healthy (soft and smooth) and he didn’t think I had cancer. He sent me for another PSA test. A week later, I returned for another visit to the urologist and my PSA had dropped to 16. At that point in time, the urologist said I didn’t have cancer. When I asked how he could be so sure, he indicated that PSA scores don’t drop that fast if you have cancer. He prescribe antibiotics and ordered another PSA test in two weeks. I got the results back this week and my PSA level was under five. The urologist gave me a high five and sent me on my way with a referral for another PSA test in six months.

Why a nice Irish/Welsh lad wants to smack his doctor

My family physician put me through hell. He put my family through hell. He negatively impacted the lives of a lot of people with his careless and thoughtless behavior. The man had no right to tell me I had cancer without getting the opinion of a specialist and without performing additional tests. It is inconceivable that my family physician could act such an irresponsible manner. I don’t know if it is the Irish blood in me or not, but I would really like to smack the guy.

Ahhhhh….that feels better.

Where Did All The Blueberries Go?

What’s so great about blueberries? They are filled with antioxidants of course!

You must have heard of antioxidants…they are….something that makes you healthy….right????

So what is an antioxidant? Wikipedia actually does a pretty good job of a definition:

“An antioxidant is a molecule capable of inhibiting the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons or hydrogen from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals. In turn, these radicals can start chain reactions. When the chain reaction occurs in a cell, it can cause damage or death to the cell”

So that means….antioxidants are good because they fight free radicals which are bad….right????

OK! Let’s assume the scientists are right and the marketing people are not just making all this antioxidant stuff up. So, oxygen, which seems like a good thing for a human can be bad when it becomes a “free radical”…..hmmm. This is getting complicated.

The marketing people come to the rescue!

Antioxidants are GOOD…we get that. So, how do we get those wonderful antioxidants? Fortunately, we have the marketing people to tell us. Eat blueberries….and pomegranates if you must.

And what is the easiest and most cost effective way to consumer blueberries? Eat cereals and muffins etc that the food industry has conveniently added to their products. Heh, people will buy anything if it tastes good and they think it is healthy. But wait…..are they really adding blueberries? The video is worth watching, but if you don’t want to spend 7 minutes viewing the video, I will save you the time. What you will find is a lot of packaging of common food products that show pictures and words that make you think you are eating blueberries, when in fact there are no blueberries to be found. What you are really eating is sugar and food coloring that looks and tastes like blueberries. I couldn’t help but think of the Matrix movies when I was watching the video.

What are these dangerous “Free Radicals”?

Your body uses oxygen to help with the chemical reactions that produce energy in your cells. Unfortunately, about 2% of oxygen goes unused and can become harmful to your body. You have heard of these harmful unused oxygen atoms because somebody came up with the cool term “free radicals”. Free radicals are actually electron hungry single oxygen atoms that attach to other molecules in order to become stable. The molecules that the oxygen (free radicals) attach to become degraded in the process known as oxidation. If you are having difficulty visualizing this, think of the rusting process you see on cars or steel bridges…same thing.

What’s the best way to consume antioxidants?

Let’s go back to the Wikipedia description of an antioxidant: “Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons or hydrogen from a substance to an oxidizing agent”. The definition specifically mentions hydrogen because hydrogen is the universal donator of electrons.

Foods such as blueberries and pomegranates are said to be excellent antioxidants. ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) is a term of measurement that describes the ability of a food to act as an antioxidant. The word must have been created by marketing people because scientists would not likely use those words. In fact, the terminology is fancy but virtually meaningless to the general public. I don’t know how the process of creating antioxidants from foods works because I have never found an explanation. It’s amusing how we the public just accept these “facts” without ever receiving an explanation of how and why.

Ionized water provides an alternative source of free hydrogen. The terminology for measurement of the antioxidant properties of a liquid is ORP (oxidation reduction potential). ORP as a word appears to be a bit more scientific than ORAC and it is simple to measure. Unfortunately the ORP measurement is virtually meaningless as it only tells us what degree of positive or negative charge is in the water at a given moment in time and doesn’t take into account the stability of the charge. This topic deserves an article of its own.

Why not just find the best and most cost effective way to generate hydrogen?

Free hydrogen is the ultimate antioxidant because it reacts with free oxygen to form harmless water molecules. According to Dr. Hayashi, the world’s leading reasearcher in the area of ionization of water, free hydrogen can be created by the ionization process. Dr. Hayashi has created a device that he has demonstrated can measure the presence of free hydrogen in ionized water. Too bad nobody else has access to the device.

Unfortunately, the water ionizer industry has been run by individuals who have never bothered to attempt to understand how or why their products are so important to our health. The electric water ionizer companies have ruined their industry by bashing each other in an attempt to win over the 0.1% of the population that knows about the machines, instead of educating the public.

The public will benefit from the introduction of he new antioxidant filter technology. The new filters sell for a fraction of the price charged by the electric water ionizers companies and they produce the same health benefits by means of creating free hydrogen.

“Healthier” Reverse Osmosis Systems

The debate over the benefits and faults of Reverse Osmosis systems has been raging for years. For me, the issue is about creating better drinking water, but I understand the passion behind the debate because there is so much money at stake within the industry.

Our source water is getting more and more polluted and public funding for safe water continues to disappear. People are rightfully questioning the government position that our drinking water is safe. Drinking a glass of water from your tap today won’t make you sick overnight, but the cumulative effects of drinking contaminated tap water over time is very unhealthy.

My Meeting with a Large Reverse Osmosis Water Company

I had the good fortune to be contacted recently by a large retail chain of stores that sells RO water and RO equipment to the public. They found my blog and asked me to talk to them about Antioxidant Filters. I was impressed with the knowledge and experience of the people at the meeting. I was also impressed with their responsible attitude towards serving their customers.

The participants in the meeting were supporters of the benefits of water ionizers as they had all tried ionized water. However, the feedback on the electric water ionizers was that they were too expensive s, and they are not compatible with RO systems.

The people at the meeting asked to describe how and why the Antioxidant Filters perform so well with RO systems. They “got it” right away as soon as I explained how natural ionization works as opposed to electrolysis. It was simple to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Antioxidant Filter by testing the water with pH drops after it has passed through both the RO system and through the Antioxidant Filter.

It became instantly obvious to me at the meeting that there is a huge business opportunity available to those in the RO industry who understand that they can contact previous customers and upgrade their RO systems to provide “healthier” water.

Reverse Osmosis Systems: The Good

Reverse Osmosis systems were originally created for commercial purposes to remove salt from water and they are very effective in that regard. RO systems also remove many other contaminants from water, which means that they can be very beneficial in situations of unsafe water supply. In disaster situations where sanitation is compromised, RO systems can be life savers. For those that receive their drinking water from wells, lakes, or runoff, RO systems can remove harmful bacteria and other dangerous contaminants that may be present. Gone are the days when we can take clean water for granted, so RO systems definitely have a useful function in our world.

Reverse Osmosis Systems: The Bad

There are a number of arguments against RO systems, but the primary concerns are that the systems remove good stuff (essential minerals) from the water and that the systems make the water very acidic. Both concerns are real and important. There are other minor negatives to RO systems, but they are more of an inconvenience thing as opposed to real issues.

The RO System Rebuttal

The RO industry has been claiming for years that the body doesn’t absorb inorganic minerals found in water, so the argument that RO systems removed healthy minerals is redundant. After my meeting with the RO water company, I decided to do some research. The amount of information on the internet in support of RO systems being the best solution for drinking water is staggering. However, the information is completely biased and is not based upon facts, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Your body absorbs minerals such as Magnesium and Calcium from water

Contrary to what the Reverse Osmosis industry claims, your body does absorb minerals from water. I will limit my discussion for brevity reasons to a discussion of Magnesium and Calcium, two of the most important minerals in our bodies. Intuitively, you should know that our bodies can absorb minerals from water as our species has somehow managed to survive for thousands of years despite the fact that magnesium and calcium (which the body is unable to produce on its own) are not always available to everyone.

Magnesium:

The US government’s National Institute of Health says:

“Tap water can be a source of magnesium, but the amount varies according to the water supply. Water that naturally contains more minerals is described as “hard”. “Hard” water contains more magnesium than “soft” water”. The quote comes from http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/magnesium.

Livestrong tells us:

In general, minerals already dissolved in water are more bio-available than solid forms, although many factors affect absorption within the small intestine, such as pH levels, health of the mucosal lining and the presence of other nutrients, as noted in the text, “Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism.” A French study published in a 2002 edition of the “European Journal of Clinical Nutrition” found that the absorption and bio-availability of magnesium in magnesium-rich mineral water was almost 60 percent in healthy male volunteers.

In comparison to absorption of minerals in water, supplemental forms are not absorbed as well. According to a review article published in a 2002 edition of the “Geriatric Times,” supplemental magnesium absorption ranges from about 30 to 41 percent and depends on age, intestinal health and type of magnesium supplement. Wikipedia informs us about the body’s ability to absorb Magnesium hydroxide. Wikipedia says “Magnesium hydroxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Mg(OH)2……..Magnesium hydroxide is a common component of antacids and laxatives… all of magnesium hydroxide that does dissolve does dissociate. Since the dissociation of this small amount of dissolved magnesium hydroxide is complete, Magnesium hydroxide is considered a strong electrolyte.”

Calcium:

GoAskAlice, Columbia University’s Health Internet Service (http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/5403.html) tells us: “What we do know is that your body does absorb the calcium in hard water, and utilizes it the same way it would if it came from any other food source.”

I was surprised to learn from Livestrong (http://www.livestrong.com/article/440087-how-does-the-body-absorb-calcium/#ixzz1X0YyYKZX) that:

“Plant-derived foods that contain the chemicals oxalic acid or phytic acid inhibit calcium absorption by binding the mineral in your intestines. Bound calcium cannot be absorbed. Foods that contain a high concentration of oxalic acid include spinach, collards, radishes, beet greens, amaranth, carrots, lettuce and sweet potatoes. Concentrated amounts of phytic acid are found in nuts, seeds, beans and whole-grain products”.
I also learned that your body can’t absorb Calcium without the presence of Magnesium.

Summary:

Like so many things we read on the internet or hear from sales people with a vested interest, the stories are not necessarily based upon facts.

RO systems do remove healthy minerals from water along with a myriad of unhealthy contaminants. I have spoken with many individuals that have suffered from calcium leaching due to drinking RO water. At the same time, I have also spoken to many people who have consumed RO water for many years that are perfectly healthy if they take Calcium and Magnesium supplements.

There appears to be a symbiotic relationship between RO systems and Antioxidant Filters that use Magnesium as their primary ionizing medium. RO systems are superior purifiers that will extend the filter life of the Antioxidant Filters. The balanced minerals found in Antioxidant Filters replace the minerals that are removed by RO systems and add other essential minerals that the body absorbs. The Antioxidant Filters also provide the wonderful health benefits of alkaline and antioxidant water that are not possible with the use of a Reverse Osmosis system on its own.

It looks like the RO guys that brought me in to the meeting are on to something very powerful. I applaud them for their forward thinking and initiative

Some electric water ionizer dealers have never been happy with the fact that I have questioned the ethical behavior of their owners, or questioned the high prices of the machines. However, the dealers know that I have always had their backs when it comes to the great efforts they make in educating others about the water. Without the dealers, nobody would be drinking ionized water.

Water Ionizer Dealers Are Angry With Me These Days!

I have received a couple of emails this week from dealers who are not happy with my recent articles. The dealers have criticized me for writing about the fact that the $329 Alkastream antioxidant filter and the $495 Hydrid electric machine work just as well as higher priced products. They are also concerned with my article that states the leading brand machines are now available for under $1,000. They are genuinely afraid that my goal of making water ionizers more affordable is jeopardizing their ability to support their families.

If a couple of brave dealers have made the effort to express their concerns, I have to believe that there are many more out there feeling the same thing. I’m grateful for the feedback, even if it hurts.

My Apology

I sincerely apologize to anyone in the water ionizer industry who has suffered in any way because of my blog.

Hydration Facts

A healthy person can survive 4-6 weeks without food, but the same healthy person typically can only survive a week or less without water.

An average 175 pound man requires about 2.5 quarts/liters of water per day to replace the fluids that the body loses during the day. Dehydration can take place within hours in hot weather or during physically stressful situations conditions. Mental capacity drops by as much as 10% daily if you don’t replenish your fluids.

Cravings for snacks in the evening is typically your body telling you it is thirsty rather than hungry, but your brain doesn’t know the difference. If you find yourself hungry in the evening, try drinking water instead of snacking. You will be surprised how often your hunger will often go away. If you want to lose weight, try drinking a glass of water half an hour before meals and you will likely experience pleasing results.

Headaches or light-headedness are often a sign you are dehydrated. Instead of reaching for an aspirin, try having a glass of water first.

It is essential to replace the 2.5 quarts/liters of water per day that your body uses. Since you must consume water every day to stay alive, let’s take a look at what is the best way to take in your daily requirement of water.

The Hydration Pyramid

When the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) recently changed their recommendation of what they believe is the best diet for Americans, they also replaced their Food Pyramid illustration a new illustration called My Food Plate. It seems that they changed the illustration because the Pyramid was just too bloody difficult for many people to understand. I have created a simple illustration of a pyramid to help people understand that all water is not the same. You have choices when it comes to the liquids you drink and they can have a profound effect on your health.

Level 1 – Replace the Water Your Body Loses:

Your body uses approximately 80 ounces of water per day. You need to replace the water or you will become dehydrated. Dehydration is a major cause of aging and the source of many health problems.

We consume water in many forms, including the food that we eat. Yes, there is water in your food. Typically, most people consume about half a quart/liter of water each day from their food.

We also drink water every time we drink sodas, juices, milk, coffee, and even alcohol. They are not the best choices, but they do count as there is a very high content of water in most drinks. For example, I call my wife’s coffee “stained water”.

Level 2 – Drink Water and Only Water

Most of us drink water in various forms, but the only form of water that your body requires is….water. In fact, any other form of liquid that you put into your body just makes your body work harder to get rid of everything else.

Many people claim that they don’t like the taste of water, so they drink sodas, or juices. The sugar in those drinks makes them tasty, but sodas and juices are the leading cause of obesity and diabetes in our society.

Many parents give their young children fruit juices to drink believing that they are good for them. What they are really doing is creating an unnatural desire for sugar that can last a lifetime.

Kick the sugar habit. Don’t buy Coke or Pepsi or fill your pantry with sugar based drinks. The new sports drink craze is a multibillion dollar industry, but all you need is water and a proper diet. Just drink water!

Level 3 – Drink Filtered Water

Municipalities tell you that your tap water is safe…..but it is only safe to a certain degree. All contaminants eventually end up in our water supply. The Safe Water Act only requires municipalities to remove about 100 of the 60,000 known contaminants found in our world.

Municipalities put chlorine or chloramines in our water supply as a form of decontamination. About 2/3 of our population has poisonous fluoride in its water supply. You should be removing them from your water before you drink the water. Filters cost money, but it is better to buy a filter than be a filter.

Level 4 – Drink Alkaline Water

Diseases thrive in an acidic body and can’t survive in an alkaline environment. Unfortunately, for everyone but the most diligent vegetarians, our body become more and more acidic as we age because of the abundance of processed/acid food that we eat and the sugary/acidic beverages we drink.

Drinking alkaline water will help combat acidosis by gradually shifting the pH of our bodies towards and alkaline state, with emphasis on the gradual part of the equation. A once or twice per year short blast of stronger alkaline water (as in water with a pH of 9.5) is good for detoxifying your body. But, for the long haul, a more gentle approach to balancing your internal pH is to drink slightly alkaline water and consume a less acidic diet.

To improve your health or maintain good health, drinking water with a pH in the range of 8.0 to 9.0 (depending on the acidity of your diet) is a great place to start. Society is slowly waking up to the fact that the goal for achieving maximum health is to help your body by consuming what nature intended instead of processed foods and beverages.

Level 5 – Drink Hydrogen Rich Water

Our bodies require oxygen to survive, which is why we have lungs. While oxygen is essential, the 2% of the oxygen that we don’t get used up becomes free oxygen, commonly known as free radicals. The best way to combat free oxygen is to introduce it to free hydrogen. The reason free hydrogen is the ultimate antioxidant is due to the fact that oxygen is attracted to hydrogen and the resulting molecule that is formed is water….harmless water that makes up 70% of our body.

Free hydrogen provides another incredibly important function in your body that nobody seems to talk about. Hydrogen assists in the production of energy in the mitochondria of our cells. That is why so many people experience more energy and why athletes are turning to ionized water.
