So why am I now praising Enagic and their dealers? One of my goals for this blog is to encourage the water ionizer industry to be more responsible to the public. That means offering better products and lower prices, and to market their products with honesty and integrity. However, the primary purpose of this blog is to build awareness of ionized (kangen) water so that people can understand how important the water is to our health.

When it comes to creating awareness in the water ionizer industry, nobody compares to Enagic. I did it….I gave Enagic a compliment and I didn’t burst into flames!

The water ionizer industry in North America is unsophisticated, uncoordinated, and it is stuck in neutral when it should be growing like wildfire. The industry is stuck because nobody in the industry is working at educating the public about the incredible benefits of water ionizers……nobody except Enagic that is. Enagic and its hard working representatives have done all the heavy lifting by themselves.

Most of the other players in the industry focus their efforts on trying to grab as much as they can from the work done by Enagic, instead of actually creating awareness themselves. The other companies fight and bicker and play nasty tricks on each other. They use deceptive “independent” reviews or present phony comparison charts instead of actually building something. No wonder the public gets confused and the industry is stuck in neutral.

While the Enagic corporation is to be commended for its foresight in regards to building and educating its network, it is the Enagic representatives themselves who deserve the real credit. They dedicate their time and effort to educating the public about the merits of the water. The representatives have a financial incentive to do their work of course, but they couldn’t sell their machines if they didn’t believe in the benefits of the machines. So, I salute Enagic and its army of representatives who actively build awareness of ionized water with each and every call and meeting.

One final thought. Enagic needs to reduce their prices now! If they don’t, I expect Enagic will be a mere historical footnote in the near future, and that would be a shame. It would be easy for Enagic to reduce their prices . They could cut back on their commission structure and the corporation itself should drop the price that it sells the units to the marketing system. There would still be plenty of profit for everyone. Come on Enagic….if I can figure it out, surely you can to.

Like many others, you may have been introduced to the water by a Multi Level Marketing representative. Perhaps you learned about the water from a friend, acquaintance, or family member. Maybe you started researching online because you or a loved one is dealing with a disease that needs attention. It doesn’t matter how you got here, as the important thing is that you got to this point.

Chances are that you have already visited several websites to learn about the water. The good news is that there is a lot of information available. The bad news is that virtually all the information available is being brought to you by someone who is trying to sell you something. There is nothing wrong with people trying to sell you things, as our economy is driven by sales. However, when you are looking for information, it can be really annoying to be constantly hit with sales pitch after sales pitch.

So, who do you believe?

Most people start their research with the review sites. People start with these sites because intuitively, it makes sense to begin with comparisons. The review sites are easily accessible because of the huge marketing budgets supporting the sites. People naturally want to take the shortest path to a solution, and the review sites appear to fit the bill. Unfortunately, the review sites are likely the source of your confusion.

The seemingly “independent” review sites are not independent at all. The sites are carefully scripted marketing tools that direct you in a subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) way towards helping you select a specific product. As a consumer, it is easy to be fooled by these sites into thinking that a certain brand is the best. The confusion starts when you investigate more than one of the review sites, as you are left shaking your head and asking yourself “How can the opinions of the different independent sites be so different”. It would be logical to expect that the “best” machine would win on every review site, but don’t forget that there is nothing independent about the sites at all.

So, it you can’t trust the review sites, where should you turn?

It would seem logical to contact companies that sell various brands, as you would expect them to have knowledge of various products. It would also be reasonable to assume that the companies are not biased towards a specific brand because they can make money selling all of the products they carry. Such companies do exist, but based upon my research, it is more likely that you will be guided by a sales person towards choosing a product that pays the best commissions, or towards a product that the company is trying to clear from its inventory, or trying to meet sales quotas so that they can purchase at lower prices.

Here are 10 Tips to Finding the Right Water Ionizer that I would start with once I have come to the realization that all water ionizers are good for my health, and that there is no such thing as the best water ionizer for all conditions:

1) Decide what factors are most important to you before you begin calling anyone. Are you simply looking for healthy drinking water? If so, you don’t need to buy the expensive models. Do you need your machine to obtain pH values of 11 or more to wash the pesticides off your fruits and vegetables? Do you need your machine to produce really low pH values so that you can use the acidic water as an environmentally friendly disinfectant? Would an under-counter unit best suit your needs? And last but definitely not least, how important is cost?

2) Seek out someone that has experience with testing and using various brands.

3) Search for a person that asks you about your needs rather than telling you about all of the features of the machines they sell. Anybody can read a promotional card from the company that makes a product.

4) Work with someone who is willing to listen, because it is really hard to listen when you are talking all the time.

5) Find a representative that answers your questions directly, or offers to find out the answer, rather than someone who deflects to another topic or is evasive because they don’t know the answer.

6) Find out about your local source water conditions before calling anyone. Otherwise, try to find someone that is familiar with your local source water conditions, or is willing to help you find out about your water

7) Make sure you deal with someone who is knowledgeable about proper filtration. Water ionizers typically don’t provide sufficient filtration for all the chemicals that we find in our water. Your goal should be to obtain the best possible drinking water, and the first step is to optimize the quality of the water entering your water ionizer.

8) Deal with a reputable company that sells reputable brands. Warranty and return policies are not important until you need them.

9) You will be using your machine for many years, so it is important to deal with someone that you trust and feel comfortable working with. While obtaining the best price is important, a good relationship will provide better value over the long term.

10) Once you have determined the right brand for your needs, shop around for the best deal. The industry is relatively new to North America, and that means that most of the brands are over-priced. Don’t be afraid to negotiate.

If you are frustrated by the entire process, you are not alone. I would be happy to answer your questions if you email me and leave me a telephone number where I can contact you. I have a telephone plan that offers free calling in the USA and Canada. I won’t attempt to sell you a water ionizer because I’m not in the business, so all I can offer is free advice. If you start drinking ionized water and share your story with others, that will be my reward.

I don’t provide written recommendations by email, because I don’t want people posting my advice in order to create a business opportunity. Let them do their own research!

As always, the opinions expressed in this article are those of the author. It is advisable to consult your health care provider with any health related issues.

This site is all about providing information, so I don’t get involved in touting or bashing companies or brands.

Let me begin by saying that a Multi Level Marketing company has done an admirable job of creating interest in ionized water during the past three years, and that is a good thing in my books.

The MLM company even has a decent machine. They purchased the rights to a line of ionizers produced by a well respected manufacturer from Japan and began marketing in September 2004.

However, I’m not a fan of MLM in the water ionizer industry for two main reasons.

The first reason involves the price/value equation. Their machine sells for approximately twice as much as the other leading ionizers available on the market. When asked about why their machines are double the price of everyone else’s machines, typical responses include: our machines are the best, OR, our machines are made in Japan which makes them better, OR, our machines have big plates, OR, our machines have alot of power, yada-yada-yada. But, you will never hear an MLM salesperson talk about the 8 levels of commissions that are responsible for the high price. If you appear interested, they will generally launch into a discussion about the “business opportunity” available to anyone that purchases their product.

Maybe it is just me, but when my wife and I were trying to decide which ionizer to purchase, I wasn’t happy to learn that there were eight levels of sales commissions being paid on the unit that we were looking at.

The MLMers arguements about plate size and power seemed to provide some merit, but a quick survey of the market showed us that other leading brands were also producing great products that performed as well or better that the MLM product. Further research and testing proved to us beyond a doubt that the industry had advanced beyond the technology offered by the MLM product, and that others provided significantly better value. Needless to say, we didn’t purchase an ionizer from a MLM company.

The second, and more important reason that I don’t care for MLM in our industry, is that it appears that many new MLM sales people have good intentions, but are simply not well trained. A lack of training or experience can lead to false claims being made, or incorrect information being spread about other products. People that have just paid $4,000 for their machine are often enticed by the potential to earn the money back that they spent. They are encouraged to contact their friends and family to buy a machine despite the fact that they have little or no knowledge of how or why the machines work. Their passion is a good thing, but their lack of knowledge can be downright scary. Water effects everybody in so many ways. It only makes sense that someone should learn as much as they can about a topic that is so important before they start imposing their will on others.

The gentleman that introduced my wife and I to their MLM product was very knowledgeable. He was a real pro in every way, other than the fact that he only had bad things to say about competitive companies. I don’t know about you, but hearing about how great his machine was, and that all competitors were inferior really turned us off. In fact, the negative stuff acted as a springboard for us to start researching other companies in the industry in much greater depth. If I had the best product on the market, I wouldn’t even talk about other companies.

Millions of people suffer with arthritis, and many billions of dollars are spent each year battling the disease. Given the widespread occurrence of arthritis, and the cost of dealing with it in terms of suffering and money, it boggles my mind that there are so few people who are aware that alkaline ionized water will get rid of arthritis quickly, and naturally without any side effects.

I had been suffering with osteoarthritis for years, and it was getting worse over time. I have been very active with sports all my life with sports, and I have owned a construction company for the last 19 years. By the spring of 2008, and age 51, I was no longer able to participate in sports and was unable to work with my crew of men. The bottom line was that I was becoming another one of the grumpy old men that we all know.

My physician indicated that I would have to deal with the pain for the rest of my life, but that “we” could manage the pain. In 2007, he began prescribing one 200 mg Arthrotec pill twice each day that I was taking in the morning and evening. Arthrotec is a “coated” Voltarin NSAID that is supposedly easier on the stomach. In addition, he also prescribed one 40 mg Pantoloc pill each day to assist with protecting my stomach. NSAIDS are brutal on the gastrointestinal tract, and to his credit, my physician was attempting to be cautious. What the physician didn’t tell me is that Pantoloc is a Calcium blocker and that it reduces the amount of acid in the stomach, which means that you can’t fully digest your food.

The prescriptions were able to dull the pain on a daily basis, but if I ever missed a pill, the pain would return immediately. Over time, the pain became worse, so I visited a chiropractor three times each week to help manage what was becoming a more and more debilitating problem. The chiropractor manipulations helped a bit, but the there was marginal success. I was spending 3 x $45 each week for the chiropractor plus paying for the pills. In total, I was spending about $700 per month for pain management and was not getting worse, instead of getting better.

Last spring, my wife Mary told me that she had found the answer to my arthritis. Sure honey! Sorry about being skeptical, but she has made a lot of those announcements over the years and we have a drawer full of failed attempts. It turns out she had attended a Multi-Level Marketing meeting where she watched a demonstration about alkaline ionized water. She was very excited about the water and told me that “we” were going to do this together. Oh yeah! I had zero interest in this latest attempt at the fountain of youth and good health, but how bad could drinking water be. Compared to all of the weird things she has made me eat over the years, water seemed like a breeze. Mary made me put away my pills and started to fill me up with water. Drinking water is not a lot of fun normally as it seems I get bloated after about one glass. The ionized water seemed to go down a lot easier than regular water and it seemed like I could drink a lot more, but maybe I was just caught up in ”taking one for the team”. The next day I had a big headache which was unusual. The headache continued the second day and I asked my wife if she was trying to kill me with the water. She said she has a headache as well, and suggested we call the water salesman. When we reached him by telephone, he was very happy as he said we were cleansing and detoxing. I could just see the guy dancing a little jig thinking about the commission he was going to make. He’s all happy and I have a head banger headache! I wanted to grab the guy by the throat! The good news is that he said to keep drinking the water and the headaches would go away… and they did.

I would have bet 1,000 to 1 odds that the alkaline ionized water wouldn’t work for me. I knew my wife meant well, but how could something as simple as ionized water be effective when my doctor and his medications, and chiropractor couldn’t help? Fortunately, I would have been wrong as the results were amazing. Not only did my arthritis go away and stay away, but my acid reflux problem that had been bothering me for about 15 years also disappeared.

Once we were through the trial process, my wife said we should purchase the unit that the water ionizer sales guy was selling. I agreed until I asked how much they cost. When I found out the cost was $4,000, I nearly flipped and I started researching on the internet. It turns out that all alkaline water ionizers work through simple electrolysis. There are lots of companies out there selling this type of product and it appears that you can purchase a very effective top of the line unit from one of several leading companies for about $2,000 if you don’t get involved with a Multi-Level Marketing program.

It is now 8 months later and I have not taken a pill since I started drinking the water. I returned to playing and coaching basketball, and now I can golf and play tennis again. The machine paid for itself in three months simply by eliminating prescriptions and chiropractor bills. The savings are good, but the real win is that it works! And the bonus is that my wife thinks I’m doing this all for her… Hehehe!
