Probably NEVER!

The people who run the companies selling Coke and Pepsi know that their products are ruining lives and contributing to disease and death all over the world. They don’t care. Hey baby, it’s all about freedom of choice. Besides, harmful acidic drinks full of sugar puts smiles on the faces of hundreds of millions of unsuspecting, uneducated people every day….and lots of money in their pockets.

The people who run Coca Cola and PepsiCo are not dummies. Far from it. They know that the world will eventually figure out that their products are far more harmful to society than cigarettes. Before you say that can’t be true, think about what sodas are doing to our society. Obesity, diabetes, and even cancer, can be tied to the insanely high consumption of sodas in America….and all without a warning label. The burden on our health care system from sodas is unbelievable. Yes, other factors such as McDonalds et al contribute, but sodas are the key to the downfall of the health of our society.

Want to lose weight?

Stop drinking sodas. If you change nothing else in your life other than switching from drinking one soda per day to one glass of water, you will lose 14 pounds per year. Want to gain weight? Drink sodas as the opposite of the above is true for putting on weight.

If you think that drinking diet sodas is better, think again as you will see below.

It gets worse!

Coke has a pH of about 2.5. So what? Since the pH scale is logarithmic, much like the Richter scale which measures earthquakes, a pH of 2.5 is 50,000 times more acidic than pure water. Hmmmm…..sounds bad, but what does it mean?

Your blood needs to be slightly alkaline in the 7.3 to 7.4 pH range. If the pH of your blood strays outside that tight range, the consequences are bad and can lead to death. Your body will do whatever it has to do in order to maintain the pH in your blood in the proper pH range. The only defense your body has is for the blood to confiscate alkali minerals from other parts of your body. Your body will steal calcium from your bones and teeth leading to osteoporosis and dental problems. Your body will steal magnesium from your bones and cells. While calcium loss and calcium supplements get all the headlines, your body can’t even process calcium without magnesium. Your body will also grab the limited amount of iodine that your body stores from your thyroid, which controls metabolism in your body.

Must See Video

The following video is the best health related video I have ever watched. It is simple and easy to understand. Please take the next 9 minutes of your life to watch the video. The time will fly by as it is simple to understand and interesting. You will want to share it with your kids and anyone else that you care about.

You can read the article at: http://www.sify.com/news/coca-cola-embroiled-in-dangerously-misleading-water-ad-controversy-news-international-lcfluhaajdj.html

The advertising campaign for Coca Cola’s bottled mineral water has been criticized by the National Consumers League (NCL) an American consumer group, which they have labeled “dangerously misleading”. The consumer group complaint is that the advertisements are “a public health menace” and “outlandish”.

The Coca Cola ad campaign claims that the bottled water can replace flu shots and prevent illness. Coca Cola claims the water is nutritious based upon the fact it contains 100% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C. What the advertisement doesn’t tell us is that the water also contains up to 5 teaspoons of sugar! Anyone that has done any research at all would never consider a beverage to be healthy if it contains up to 5 teaspoons of sugar. The Advertising Standards Authority obviously agrees, as they banned the advertisement.

The ad campaign includes a poster containing the words “flu shots are so last year” and “more vitamin c, more immunity”. According to Sally Greenburg, the executive director of the NCL: “These advertising claims are not only untrue, they constitute a public health menace.” Stopping these Vitaminwater claims, which contradict information by the Centers for Disease Control and other public health authorities, should be a top FTC priority,”

Soft drinks are a leading cause of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. In addition, they contribute heavily to acidosis in the body. The pH level of the original Coke is 2.5, which is 50,000 times more acidic than pure water. Acidosis is believed by many researchers to be a major contributor to many if not all disease.

Your body expires about 2.5 quarts (liters) of water per day that the fluids that to be replaced. Most people consume obtain about a pint (half liter) of water from the food that they eat, which means the average person needs to drink 2 quarts (liters) per day.

The only fluid your body requires is water….clean healthy water. You can create virtually an unlimited amount of clean water for your family by purchasing one of many different types of pre-filter system that costs about $250. The annual maintenance cost of replacement filters for the system costs about $100 per year. If you can afford to add an extra $150, you can purchase an antioxidant filter that will provide your family with the healthy benefits of ionized water that is loaded with powerful antioxidants. Any other liquid requires your body to work to eliminate the unnatural chemicals and burn off unwanted calories, and most liquids available for sale are acidic.

As always, the opinions expressed in this article are those of the author

More than half of Americans drink bottled water, and more than one third of Americans drink bottled water on a regular basis. Is that a good thing? Yes and no. Drinking water is definitely better than drinking a soda, but you are probably not drinking the “pure” and healthy water that you think you are.

There are three significant reasons not to drink bottled water which include: health issues, the high cost of bottled water, and the environmental cost of bottled water. Covering all three issues in one article would make this a very long story. Therefore, I have broken down the article into three Parts. This Part deals with the health issues of drinking bottled water.

Health issues of bottled water:

CTV news reported this week about a recent study in Montreal, Canada, that is “raising worries about bacteria in bottled water, noting they’ve found “revolting” levels that could put certain vulnerable people at risk.” Researchers from a laboratory in Montreal started to randomly test bottled water for bacteria when one of their employees complained about the taste of the water from a bottle and then became ill. They tested several brands and found more than 70 percent of the samples contained bacteria levels that were dozens of times higher than the levels permitted by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). That doesn’t mean that all bottled water, or even the bottles that they studied were unsafe. In fact, the researches indicated that the level of contaminants found in the bottled water that they studied would most likely only cause adverse effects in those that are more susceptible to illness.

While the potential of the bottled water to cause illness is certainly important, I believe the real significance of the research is that it dispels the public image that bottled water is “pure” and healthy. The “pure” and healthy perception held by the public has been created over many years by sophisticated marketing campaigns that have cost hundreds of millions of dollars. That’s right, hundred of millions of dollars. Bottled water is that profitable.

You can read the article at: http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100525/bottled-water-bacteria-100525/20100525/?hub=TorontoNewHome

It has been estimated that nearly half of bottled water is simply tap water that has been filtered. That may provide some comfort, especially if the filtration eliminates the foul taste and odour of chlorine and other chemicals in your tap water. However, you can purchase a simple charcoal filter that can be installed under your kitchen sink that will do the same thing or more likely a lot better for a fraction of the cost.

Having learned the importance of eating an alkaline diet and drinking alkaline water, I’m always interested in the acidic content of foods and drinks. The ideal pH level of the fluids in our body is between 7.3 and 7.4 which is slightly alkaline. When you drink liquids that are acidic, you eventually become more acidic, and that is the playground for disease. Canadian municipalities, by law, must provide drinking water that has a pH that ranges between 6.5 which is acidic, and 8.0, which is alkaline (7.0 is neutral). The water supplied by most municipalities typically has a pH level slightly above 7.0 because it results in lower long term maintenance costs. Therefore, most municipalities are doing our bodies a favour.

Now, let’s take a look at the pH levels of the leading bottled water products. Dasani (the Coca Cola bottled water product) has a pH of 6.6, which is acidic, and barely above the legal pH level of drinking water in Canada. Since pH measures are logarithmic, that means that Dasani is 5 to 10 times more acidic than the drinking water supplied by most municipalities in Canada. If you think Dasani is bad, take a look at Aquafina (Pepsi’s bottled water product). Acquafina has a pH level of 5.8 which means that it is 7 times more acidic than the lowest legal pH value for water supplied by municipalities. In fact, Aquafina is 40 to 90 times more acidic that the water supplied by most municipalities. Think about that the next time you reach for a bottle of water.

One last little tidbit of info to make you think twice about drinking bottled water. The introduction of BPA-free bottles has helped improve the quality of bottled water, but there is evidence that chemicals still leach out of our plastic bottles. You can read about this in the following CBC report: http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2009/08/21/f-bpa-free-bottles823.html#ixzz0pPnp5HL4).

While bottled water is much better for you and your children than colas or other sodas, the water is still not as good for you as tap water. If you really care about your water, filter your own tap water, or better still, filter your water and buy a water ionizer.

Stop drinking bottled water. It is less healthy that tap water, it’s expensive, and it is terrible for our environment.

The opinions expressed in this article are those of the author and the quoted sources.
